Let's drink to old Jim Bridger

As long as there's the USA
don't let his memory die

After hiking Naomi Peak in the morning, I made the 30 minute drive over to the TH for a hike to Bridger Peak, the Rich County highpoint.

From the TH I could see the trail making a steep climb up a hillside, so off I went. It was a steep climb, but was doable. I got up below some cliff bands/rock outcroppings, and headed off-trail to get beyond the cliffs/rocks. There were some gaps to go through, and I was able to keep the hike to class 1 or maybe class 1+.

Once past the rocks I was in a forest, but it was fairly easy to find gaps through the trees and vegetation. Things opened up as I got closer to the summit, and it was no trouble finding the summit cairn. Views were somewhat obscured by trees, but there were some nice views of Bear Lake to the east and to some of the surrounding mountains to the south and west.

This isn't the greatest hike in the world, but it isn't the worst either. It is unlikely that you'll encounter any other hikers on this one, as about the only people doing it are folks wanting to get the Utah county highpoints. That said, I kinda enjoyed this short hike.

Bridger Peak is nothing to call home about unless you break a leg or something while you're up there. Just a county highpoint that is purely arbitrary. It's not very far from Naomi so if you're going to get one, you might as well get the other.

Missed my "trailhead" on the way in and drove all the way to Idaho (see GPS route for punchline). The trail goes straight up the hillside at first, then grows a little more faint in places, then you leave it and head generally NE to the peak. I aimed for the top of the ridge and then followed it north to the peak. I saw a huge buck up there and later heard a gunshot nearby so I hope they missed.

On the way back was just looking for the "clearest" path. When I ran into the trail again, I decided I'd go for Swan Peak really quick and headed uphill, then realized it would be dark by the time I got there so I turned around (complete waste of time).

Drove back to Logan for some delicious fajitas. I didn't want to move after that so I crammed myself in the backseat of the CR-V for a night at Walmart.
