| no partners | | You do research, you see pics and you develop expectations… sometimes places deliver and sometimes they don’t. Well, Alstrom Point totally exceeded my expectations 100%!
First off, the drive to get there is an adventure in itself. It’s a long dirt road that gets exceedingly more challenging as you continue the journey. It honestly looks like you’re driving into another planet with all the cool rock formations you pass. The road split at one point and google was telling me to continue towards the right. This way does get you there, but if you want to be nicer to your vehicle, take the bypass that’s more towards the left… a tiny bit longer but it drives way faster/smoother. You are on the correct (nicer road) if you see the sign that says Alstrom Point 5 miles ahead.
Note: if you do not have high enough clearance, there are campsites available before the actual point that have nice views! I did see some regular SUVs but I didn’t see any sedans.
The last 2 miles of the road to the point are pretty bumpy and rough. There are muddy sections but each had a bypass available. About 1 mile away, the rocks and obstacles get a bit more challenging. There was only 1 section where Tessa (2021 TRD Pro) had trouble. I could have used some of the fancy buttons and/or 4Low but I discovered a path to the right that was a breeze. Otherwise, it’s just your standard rocky, bumpy, very rough road. Don’t take it lightly, but in my opinion any proper high clearance vehicle with good tires will make it!
There are only about 4 proper spots camp there, but they are each big enough for a few vehicles/tents. I arrived on Saturday around 4:30pm and snagged the last spot! The views were incredible from all the spots, but the actual point (middle spot) is the best in my opinion. People left the next morning so I moved over to the point for Sunday day/night.
I wandered all around checking out the views and taking tons of photos. The water levels were crazy low in comparison to prior years pics. The sunset was incredible both nights I stayed!
The only downside to this location is that you have zero privacy. There are no trees or anything so watch where you pee or you’ll be giving a free show  On Sunday a couple on an ATV proceeded to drive right into my campsite, park right next to me and literally made lunch and stayed for an hour in my campsite. Umm… that was awkward. I did make sure they knew I was camping there, not just being a tourist and they stated that it was public land that I don’t own and they can be there if they want to. (Totally didn’t mind visitors, but the whole lunch/1 hour thing was a bit much especially when the campsite just to the right was totally unoccupied!)
Anyways, I’m so glad I went there as it was truly stunning! Probably won’t be back for a while so I’m glad I stayed 2 days! |

). This drive is just incredible. And driving over the slickrock for the last two miles before the reaching the Point was the highlight. We spent the night here, overlooking the impaired and impounded Colorado River. The view from Alstrom is incredible. This is one of the more epic places I have camped. Definitely worth the long drive.
