New Year's Day on Vulture Peak
Pam (aka Outdoor Lover) organized a New Year's Day trek scaling Vulture Peak to kick off 2013 => [ Vulture Peak - New Years Day ] .

6:45am rendezvous with Mike, Dave, and Matt at the Ahwatukee Einstein's Bagels and we hit the road to meet up with Pam et al at the Vulture Peak TH 9-ish. It was an impressive show by Pam getting all the appropriate gear to the top of the peak where we all indulged in the treats with a view.

We had time for a Cag and a Hebrew back at the TH. Good to see some HAZ'ers I haven't seen in a while, plus a few new ones! We even had a surprise visit from "Flat Denny"...

Made our way to Vulture Mine (check out => [ Vulture Mine ] and https://www.ghosttowns.com/states/az/vulturecity.html ) after saying our good-byes only to be disappointed by the "CLOSED" sign! Seems that the mine is only "OPEN" on Saturday's at 9:30am for a guided tour...

I hike Congress, Arizona and its surrounding towns' mountains/hilltops.

I love to go all day. I usually walk from Congress, AZ (before husband was laid off and I did not have 3 jobs)and I leave my home between 3-4am and go until my husband g0t off work between 5-6pm or if I was having fun exploring than until dark...

Anyone who walks with me advanced or not...say I am the easiest walking partner...adjust to their speed...however I do not like short hikes...I like being out there as long as I can...

Following lunch in Wickenburg the meetup group headed back to the mine. I was surprised at how big an operation this was. I mean there is a lot of stuff to check out! We paid our admission fee and proceeded to wander around. If you like old historical mining artifacts, this place will make you :D ! After we finished, I drove south on the Vulture Mine Road and eventually reached I-10. From there I had a choice of going back to Tucson by way of Buckeye, Gila Bend and I-8 to Casa Grande to pick up I-10 again, or just stay on I-10 through Phoenix. I chose the latter.

Daughter and son in law in town so we checked out the Vulture Mine. We paid the 10 bucks, got a tour map and went to hike. The main suggested trail around all the buildings is only about Three Quarters of a mile, but we wandered off exploring everywhere we could. Some buildings are now to deteriorated to go in. Some buildings had quite a bit of stuff laying around. If you pay for the map, when you return it is when they mention you can go to the Two school houses nearby, complete with playground and outhouse. Wanted to go up Vulture Peak since I was out Wickenburg way, but ran out of time.

After seeing Dround's triplog of Vulture Mine, I was reminded of my trip there 8 years ago. Said I would dig through the archives for my photos and post them. Here they are. Anyplace that claims to be haunted is usually interesting. Do you see any ghosts?
