The hills were as steep as ever; I could sure feel the effort. I figured I should get out here before it gets too hot. I saw one gal heading down as I neared the first flag. At the second, I stopped and had a Gatorade and another lady showed up. We talked for a minute before I headed down. I saw two other people from a distance but that was it today. The temperatures were pretty nice and there was a breeze that kept it comfortable.

Hiked Daisy Mountain With Victoria.

We were looking for a weekend fitness hike that would have some good spring flowers and tried for Daisy Mountain.

Unfortunately, it seems that we were a bit early for flowers (there was a smattering of daisies but most had not bloomed yet). On the other hand, we lucked out by going on St. Patrick's Day as the usually popular trail was nearly empty.

We got summited at the same time as another group and got some photos at the flag. It was perfect weather for our hike.

We have a few big trips coming up so this was a good way to warm up for them.

I'm preparing for a long and hilly walk next week so I picked a route that would be fairly long and hilly today. This did it, because I was totally trashed by the end. Really, I wasn't good on most all the climbs though I did push through and complete my plan.

As usual it was pretty quiet out here. I saw maybe a handful of people. After summiting Daisy Mountain, and heading down to the SE, I slipped on a steep pitch and wasn't able to recover, so ended up sliding down hill for a bit. I was eating some trail-mix at the time, so maybe that's why. I only got a few minor scrapes so that was good. I did have to pull some small sticks and rocks out of the trail-mix bag, always looking before I shoved more in my mouth.

I figured this would take me five hours and was surprisingly close to that.

I found a puzzle geocache not too far from the start to the climb up Peak 2208. I found it before but I needed a reaching tool as it was about 10' up a tree in a part that can't be climbed to. Where the trail I was on connects to the trail up Daisy Mt, I ran into two geocaching friends from Prescott Valley. We talked for a few minutes then climbed up the trail to the first saddle where they stopped to rest and I continued on.

There were several people out today. More than I've ever seen out here. There were a few people at the south flag and a couple more at the north flag. The couple at the north flag were hanging out for a long time as I saw them there when I started the descent across the ridge from the south peak and they were still there when I left the north flag after having a Gatorade and tightening my shoe laces.

All in all, a really nice day for a hike. It was a bit brisk when I started but warmed up shortly afterwards so my hands weren't cold.

One last trip up Daisy Mountain for this year.

The first time up Peak 2208, there was a man glassing for deer, I assume. I noticed his pack first and said hi. He was gone on my return, but a chair was still there.

It was pretty slow going up Daisy Mountain as I've lost a bit of fitness. There were two gentlemen sitting where the trail drops between the south and north peaks, so I talked to them for a couple of minutes. Then I stopped and found a new geocache at the bump between the two peaks. At the north peak, I stopped again and had a Gatorade and laced my shoes a bit tighter for the descent.

After the main descent where the trail crosses below the mountain, I hid a geocache and shortly after that, I talked to an archery hunter that was crossing the trail. I asked if he had seen any deer and he said he'd seen about 50 this morning! Mostly does but a few forkies and a four-pointer. Maybe it was 15, I'm not sure.

I felt much better out here than my last time last month, so I'm happy about that. It was windy and brisk when I started. My hat was close to blowing off a couple of times. I saw three people out today. The first was after the descent of Daisy Mt, where the trail crosses a road. A man walking up from his side-by-side. There was a new geocache hidden there that I stopped to find. The second wasn't too long after that, where a woman was heading up the trail. The third was a man much later on a lonely part of the trail, where I've never seen anyone before, though I have seen a deer.

I did not feel that great today. I started out doing my normal 9 mile route out here. I detoured to find a geocache, then got back on trail. Climbing up Daisy Mt, I stepped aside for a group of six heading down. Once a bit past the first saddle heading up, I was going slow and decided it best to turn around. I did decide to explore a bit heading off the other direction for a ways. Interestingly, where I turned around, there was a small solar panel with some conduit into the ground. Don't know where it was heading or what it was for; I didn't notice anything near by.

This was a nice morning to hike Daisy Mountain. I saw more people out here than I ever had before. I passed a couple hiking up Daisy Mt, then two couples on my way down. I saw four other people going up, but they were on the main trail and I had yet to cross it. Then I saw three other people later on.

The trail is still all rutted out and a couple more saguaros had toppled since I was here two weeks ago. So sad.

It's been about four weeks since I last did this hike and what a change. There must have been quite a storm because the trail was washed out in several places, some with large ruts for several yards. It made the walking more difficult and rockier too. Several saguaros have fallen between then and now too. I saw at least a dozen that had fallen, or large chunks had broken off. There was a shack someone had built in a wash, and it was nowhere to be seen.

I stopped to find a newly hidden geocache that is right off the trail. I should have spotted it quickly but walked around in circles longer than I should have.

I must be losing fitness, as I totally sucked climbing Daisy Mt. It seems I need to go up more often.

With the weather cooling off some, I decided to hike Daisy Mountain again. I had some sprinkles to start, and it was overcast most of the time. I saw two gals near the summit between the flagged summits of Daisy, nobody else.

I must like this route as here I am hiking Daisy Mountain again. It is nice to get something different in instead of Deem Hills. I saw one other person hiking today. A lady hiking Daisy Mountain for her first time. I didn't see any deer today like last week. I took a little longer break on top of the mountain to tighten the laces on my shoes a bit before the descent.

I decided to hike my new route on Daisy Mountain again. I like it. Too bad it's getting too darn hot out now. I'll have to pull myself out of bed even earlier for a 3+ hour hike. I finished up just past ten this morning and I think it was already over 100 degrees. I didn't see a single soul on my walk this morning. I did scare up muley doe though.

Back at Daisy Mountain. I decided to try a different route and I'm happy I did. It added about three miles to the normal route, but I only doubled back on about 1.15 miles of the route instead of much more. The trail is lonelier too and I don't think that's a time of year thing either.

I started walking about 7:00am, so it was getting warm finishing up, though the hard stuff was completed by 8:40 or so, so not too bad then.

I headed out to Daisy Mtn again. This time I detoured to find a geocache on top of Peak 2208. I linked the route there but now there is a trail to it, so no cross country at all. I didn't know it at the time, but looking at the satellite view, the trail continues past Peak 2208 and around and up to Daisy Mtn. There's a few trails in the area that I've been meaning to check out, so it was nice to get that somewhat done today.

I only saw one couple heading down from Daisy Mountain on my way up. Oh, I saw a lone mountain biker on my way back too.

I was going to do my nine mile loop out here like last Saturday but just felt out of it so once I reached the turn to the SE, I headed north instead. I stayed up too late and think that's what my problem was this morning. I sat at the bench at the flag and rested for a bit, drinking my Gatorade, before continuing.

I've walked this route a couple times before. I felt pretty good the first time up Daisy Mountain, but the latter half of the second time I was flagging. I figure that was mostly because it was getting warm out. I stopped for a rest and a Gatorade at the second flag, with the bench. From there it's mostly all downhill.

I only saw two people out today and both of them were fairly early on in my hike. Oh, I did see two others and their side-by-side, where the trail crosses a road. I suppose it's that time of year where people stop venturing out.

I'd never done Daisy Mountain. I really didn't want to do the "Official" track that has a good portion on an old road, so I started on the SE section, in the area of W. Honda Bow and 11th Ave.

A short climb up an old steep washed out road and I was on the trail. Heading north, I made my way to the north peak first and signed the register. The flag is still there along with 2 solar lights to light it up at night.

I was impressed with the ease at which a mountain biker was climbing up the steep hills towards me on the peak. That was until he got close enough and I saw he was on an e-bike.

I headed down the peak heading to the north TH. The largest concentration of flowers was north of the peak and to the west. Poppies were the major bloom out here by far.

Continuing around to the south, I met up with the "Official" trail. Once again time to climb to get to the South peak, also with flag and solar light.

From here, I returned the way I came. Great weather for hiking and I only saw a few other hikers.
This would be a nice workout hike if you lived in the area.

I used the same route I did last October 29, but wasn't as good. Not surprising since I've been eating more chocolate than I ought to. :?

The weather was about perfect for today and never got as warm as I figured it would.

It got a bit congested from the first flag to the turn off down to the SE, but people let me pass them without prompting, so that was nice.

As I reached the road at the SE end, there was a man walking his RC truck. That was different.

I was pretty slow on the way back up and happy to reach the second flag where I stopped for a couple minutes to drink my Gatorade before continuing down and back to my truck.

I try to get a "First to Find" on a geocache each month. A new geocache was published on Daisy Mountain, so I decided to go find that cache. I got on the trail around 7am, parking at my usual spot at the end of Circle Mt Road just east of I-17. The cache was not too far below the summit. Once finding the cache, I headed back up to continue the Daisy Mountain loop. It was nice and quiet on the trail; I didn't see anybody until near the end.

This was a while back so I don't have any specific details to share, just getting the trip off my phone and into the activity tracker. (I need to stop sitting on these lol)
