This was hike 3 of the day while in the area. Checked out the ruins circa 1880. These housed railway workers building the bridge over Canyon Diablo.

Takeaways were the unusual 20' x 40' x 15' deep dome feature in the large ruins as well as the 100's of old rusted cans scattered around.

There was a train parked in the area with lots-o-no trespassing signs, so I did not get very good photos of the iconic bridge over the canyon.

A late lunch at La Posada in Winslow after the hikes.

Pickles decided to take advantage of a 3 day weekend and get out of town to experience biking north of the valley! I loaded up my little two wheeled girl and hit the road!
I really really wanted to see what Canyon Diablo was all about so my trusty little mountain bike carried me 3 miles down that rough rocky road off the I-40 where the remnants of the town still exist. In spite of all the walls and foundations that permeate that desolate area, what I found most fascinating were the hundreds of rusty cans that are scattered EVERYWHERE! They are visible from the entrance of "Hell Street" and all the way out to the walls of the canyon itself.
I wish there was more evidence of Boothill Cemetery. Only one grave is identified and I spent a good 45 minutes scouring the landscape and studying GPS before I found it. It is hard to imagine that nearly 2,000 people lived in that town at one time. What life must have been like there!

Made a trip out to see Diablo Canyon this past june to checkout two guns and the death cave. Parts of the old zoo as well. Didnt make it up to the old ghost town by the railroad tho. Interesting history there in such a desolate place, the hike into the cave was def eerily interesting.

Great day of discovery. Pictures are worth a thousand words.
