| no partners | | I spent a night at my go-to northeastern Arizona campground at Navajo NM. It's free, and according to the ranger, has never been "full" so it's a reliable spot to show up late at night looking for a few zzz's.
It's off-season, so there are not currently any scheduled guided tours to the Betatakin ruins and the ranger who could volunteer to do it was in Phoenix for the weekend. ](https://hikearizona.com/dex2/images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif "Brick wall")
So I was limited to the trails that don't require a guide as a quick morning exploration. I would have liked to see the Aspen trail in yesteryear as it continues past the current closure to the bottom of the canyon. It looked like I could get past the rockfall, but I decided not to risk the NPS violation.
The night was very cold and fires are not permitted here. But the bathroom had a heater which was nice in the morning!  |

The weather was nice will a breeze blowing and down hill hiking. The trail in is fairly easy to follow but there are a few areas where you need to pay attention but there are markers. The hike was nice but I was in it for the ruins. We didn't know what to expect on the water crossings but the water was shallow and my hiking boots stayed pretty dry. With about 2 miles to go Aaron and I took the upper trail while Amy & Brett stayed on the creek trail. The creek trail is easier but the view from above was a nice change. When we got to the ruins we stopped and ate a snack while Max (the Ranger) got ready to lead us up. The tour went well since there were only 4 of us in the group and Max answered questions in detail. Tibber must of had a voodoo doll of me working because I took over 100 pictures on this hike and I don't remember taking that many ever. 
The hike out was warmer but we were on cruise control and got out in about 3 hours.
