Going was pretty decent, I had downloaded the track for this one but did not really need it, the way up is pretty obvious and it is just a matter of finding the path of least resistance. Managed to pick up a cholla bomb in the calf right before I met up with the tower road at the top. Made the short trip over to the summit and towers, and all the security cameras...so I am guessing this peak is on reservation land? The gnats were out in full force today, as bad as I have ever seen in the Tortolitas or McDowells even. I opted to scratch the ridgeline and just went back down the drainage, although I took a different line than the way up. There were a few eagles circling and screeching pretty much the whole time I was hiking, that was certainly at least interesting. I did manage to find a small rattler on my way back down, but he was not too interested in getting riled up. made it back to the van and headed back to town, but my hiking urge was not quite sated after this short off-trail scramble. I stopped by Lookout mountain on my way home for a little extra effort, did most of the circumference, the main summit, and a few other prominent high points complete with numerous social trails. All in all a good day! Thanks again to Chumley for your track and info on this one! |
