relaxing start to the day, with coffee and breakfast outside our cabin in escalante
drove over boulder mountain to capitol reef
fantastic views from highway 12 with aspen at peak color on the mountain
once in the park, we had a little picnic in fruita, then drove down the scenic drive to capitol gorge trailhead
crowded but seemed most were hiking the capitol gorge trail
we hiked golden throne trail first, a four mile round trip through beautiful terrain to a great view of the golden throne - just a few people on this one
spent some time at the endpoint overlook
next walked down capitol gorge and climbed up to the tanks, which both held water
high canyon walls along what used to be an old road
i don't enjoy walking through a wash much, but nice to see what this hike was about
drove to torrey and checked into our cabin at the trading post

The Apricot trees in the orchard were bare! Either picked out by other people, or knocked off by a heavy rain last week, the only real fruit was stinking and rotting on the ground. I was disappointed, to say the least. No bounty of fresh apricots, this year, for me.

So, I continued on the drive south to the Capitol Gorge hike, which I took to the tanks. Nice. Almost no one else out, possible due to the relatively low visitation, or maybe due to the storms around. I might have done another hike, but it began to rain.

We checked out Capitol Reef today, and managed to visit Hickman Bridge, Fruita Overlook (after getting a bit lost), and then Capitol Gorge to the Tanks. I really enjoyed this somewhat less developed Utah NP.

Great canyon hike. It had to be a trip to be able to drive thru here.
