This was a fun way to spend some time in the watered canyons at Red Rock, while also getting some time away from the crowds on the less-traveled trails (Knoll and Arnight). A threat of rain, which never materialized as anything other than humidity and later a strong breeze. I have been exploring the trails along the base of the escarpment over the past month, and they are a pleasant change of pace from the normal crowded canyons at Red Rock. You still get the views you expect from a trip to Red Rock NCA, in fact, more so, because you aren't enclosed in a canyon. The trails connect the major canyons, so you can still enjoy the canyon experience - pretty good combination in my book
Pay attention while hiking on the Arnight and Knoll trails - there is a web of climber use-trails in the area that the inattentive hiker could easily stray onto. |

Wildflowers Observation Moderate Mostly perennial buckwheat (Eriogonum fasciculatum) and yerba santa (Eriodictyon species) left flowering at this point, but a lot of both along this area. Also, desert willow (Chilopsis linearis) are beginning to bloom in the washes. |
