Fun, relaxed trip down Seven Cataracts! Tiny bit of flow. The first pool was slitted in.

Water flow was light compared to what I had read from other reports. The pool at the bottom of the first rappel was about 6". The second rappel got us all wet because you basically descend in the waterfall. The third rappel was totally dry. The fourth (into the impossible deep pool) had the option of swimming across or a relatively easy scramble along the wall above the pool.

Helped Tim take his friend down Seven Cats. A little icy to start, the pooled water was cold! The flow was great.

Took the Grotto on a trip down Seven Cats. We had one newbie and one person who had gone one other time. Everyone else was support. Even with 10 in our group and a bunch of playing with anchors we were done in about 5-6 hrs

Frank, David, and I did what has become an annual event, in at Windy Point and out at Seven Cataracts vista. Beautiful canyon and perfect day. A little more flowing water than some past outings, but nothing too wet. Avoided the big pool at the bottom of last drop. Good protection at each drop, but we fortified a couple with backup webbing. Frank bought new static ropes which helped. Seemed easier with static; we'd always used dynamic climbing ropes before. Only need one 200 footer for the middle two drops, but 1 and 4 require two 200's. I recommend you take extra webbing for the replacing any old setups. See my description for more details. This was Bianca's first weekend in AZ (and her birthday weekend) and we were planning to hit up Illusions but the weather forecast wasn't looking good. We decided to change plans and head down to Mt. Lemmon to hit up the Seven Cataracts. We knew there was a forecast for rain later in the afternoon but we figured we would be out of there before then. In the event there was a flash flood, we had easy escape routes to wait it out so the risk was acceptable. We had fun going through and when we hit the last waterfall, the skies opened up and just doused us. The flow on the last waterfall doubled in the time it took us to get everyone down the rope! As we made our way back to the car, we had to cross a now-swollen normally dry creek that had water rushing by at almost waist-deep. What an adventure!

Time for our annual trip down Seven Cats, same route as last year. Pretty amazing canyon with beautiful rock and pour offs. Joining me were Frank, Mike, Dana, and Travis. The anchors are in good shape and the webbing is adequate but will need replacing in a few months. I'd feel better about the first set of anchors if they were connected with a couple of screw ovals, but they hold ok. No drama this time with someone falling in the last pool. Climb out is a drag, as always. Our third trip onthis canyon, need to find some new ones.

I discovered it was Mark's birthday so I let him pick what to do out of a list of things. Nothing is better than a birthday Seven Cats! I had fun rigging most of the drops. The webbing was all good so I didn't replace any. I did manage to almost short change myself on rope for the one before the last drop. I had to land on a pile of rocks and didn't have an inch to spare. Luckily we had discussed whistle signals so I was able to instruct the guys to lower the rope a bit before they rappeled. The last pool was absolutely fabulous!!! Happy Birthday, Mark!!!

Spectacular weather today. Nice air and water temps, no wind. Plenty of water in Willow and in Bear Canyon too. I am considering going back to Bear Canyon a spending the afternoon at some of the very nice pools.

This was my first time doing a canyon that required gear. I loved it.
So thankful for friends with skills that made the trip safe and a blast.

I only wish the trip was longer.

The climb out is fairly quick but it makes you work.
cant wait for the next one.

We decided another trip down 7 Cats was in order before it got too hot. This is a special canyon with lots of excellent rock formations and 4 very nice drops, the last is about 130 feet. Three of the 7 are so small that you can scramble down. This time, we took two 60m ropes, and avoided the make-shift process for the last drop. There is a good bit of flowing water, definitly more than the last trip, and lots of pools. We got off to the left at one point and had to fight our way through the brush, but overall the route was the same. In at Windy Point and out at the 7 Cataracts Vista. The climb up to the vista is very steep. All I can say is to stay in the wash as long as you can. Footing is a lot better than to either side. The path is pretty clear until the last 100 feet or so.

There were 4 of us, all with some or a lot of experience with rock climbing and canyoneering, to share the gear carrying. I personally wouldn't take someone without some climbing/canyoneering experience on this route. The anchors and runners are in good shape, but we placed a couple of runners along the way to beef up and add redundancy. There is no avoiding getting wet at the first drop, but is only up to the knees. There is potential at a few other points and while reppelling in the cracks. Only one person slipped into the last pool, but we were leaving the canyon at that point anyway.

Excellent day, but I'm sore in a few spots today.

Hmmmm.....seemed like more than 3.2 mis and 664' of gain to me, but what do I know, only my third time canyoneering! It was a pretty canyon, and I'm glad I went. Nice day, and some fun peeps in the group. Glad Belinda and Mark agreed to belay along the edge on that last one to avoid swimming. Brrrrrrrrr.......
