| no partners | | Parked at the overflow lot and walked the extra 0.40 miles over to the trailhead. Started fairly early, but there were already a lot of people on the trail, we passed at least thirty other hikers on the way up. Cool, but not too breezy. The sections through the cliffs were neat. Short break at the top, then headed back down. The top half mile or so is kind of slick in places from thousands of shoes polishing the limestone smooth over the years. Once past that, it was simply a matter of dodging dozens of hikers who were still heading uphill. Saw a surprising number of kids on the trail, which makes me think maybe my kids should try this one next year.
Once below the cliffs, we accidentally blew past the stock trail that makes for a shortcut over to Devil's Hall, so we ended up doing that trail in it's entirely both directions. Oh well. The first mile of Devil's Hall is dull, but the second half more than makes up for it. We enjoyed the boulder hop, staircase, and the hall itself. Far less people on that trail. |
