did this loop hike the morning of our drive home
it had stormed the night before, and we had to spend some time drying things out at the campground
got started around 1000 and finished at noon
the area has had quite a bit of rain this summer
there was a forest service sign at the trailhead warning of muddy conditions
set out on horsethief trail, then a right turn on the centennial trail
the first two thirds of the hike are along creeks
there were a lot of mosquitos and the trail was indeed quite muddy
we just kept moving
one difficult creek crossing
once out of the wilderness area, things opened up and dried out
this would be a better hike in the fall
didn't care for the finish along the road
horsethief lake is pretty
glad we did the hike - won't hold conditions against it
it would be fun to do some sections of the 111 mile centennial trail and explore some of the climbing areas nearby

great trip with my friend sue
hadn't been in the black hills in over 20 years
will be back sooner - much more to do :)
