A summer flameout medley of Arch and Atlatl Rocks, the Petrified Logs Loop, Crazy Hill, White Domes, finishing off on the east side with Balancing and Elephant Rocks. We're not going to miss the extreme record breaking heat, but at least it conditioned us for this fun little side trip. 8) Blew through the Zion circus, which won't ever quite measure up to the Grand. :lol: Dang you, wreck.gov randomized distribution!

After the Fire Wave hike we headed across the Valley of Fire Park to Elephant Rock. This is a short 1.4 mile loop hike. Elephant rock is a must see but not as spectacular as I thought it would be from the photos I have seen of it. Interesting loop trail with lots of rock formations, caves and hoodoos along the way. Headed out after this hike we are heading to Zion for the night.

Easy arch to hike. Visible form the road too, but you have know where to look when you are driving by. The arch/trail is at the east entry gate. Parking for about 10 cars. Took the trail that paralleled the road to the arch. Took some pictures and then took the trail that along the north side of the hill (as designated in HAZ), which makes for a short loop. Worth doing. Arches are so fragile…you never know how long they’ll be around.

There are a couple of other trails that tie into this area. There is a loop that goes around the hill the hill that incorporates the arch, called Elephant Rock Loop trail. Part of the loop also makes the end of the Old Arrowhead Road trail. Neither of which I was able to do because of time constraints.
