Hiked the Victory Staircase (and the adjacent loop hike) at Verrado with Juan, Alyssa, and Victoria in preparation for our Colorado trip.

This was an interesting one Juan and Victoria found this one and a challenge hike. The new Verrado development community put in a trail system for the entertainment of its residents. part of that system is called the Victory stairs which is a staircase of ~100' elevation made up of old railroad ties ascending a hill overlooking the community.

The view from the top is actually pretty good and shows just how large and sprawling the complex is.

The trail system itself is pretty anemic with a small loop that is not particularly large, technical, or interesting. Its most redeeming feature is offering different views of the different parts of the community depending on which side of the loop you are at. It also has access trails at many points which is probably convenient for locals.

We found the trail to be insufficiently challenging for our skill level and opted to repeat the stair section several times in succession until we were tired.

Overall not a terrible quick hike option if you lived there but probably not worth the dive if you live elsewhere in the Phoenix metro.

Did a meetup hike this morning at Verrado Victory Steps. First time doing the stairs. Had Yolanda, Dan, and Carey from the Harem join me. Fun times. Alice the meetup organizer brought delicious, nutritious, post hike treats. Parking available on both north and south sides of the steps. Busy this morning.

Belated post. Early morning hike out in Verrado. This was a fact finding mission for this new trail. Hiked all, of what I took to be the official trail. Went up the staircase and then followed trail to top of hill. Decent workout to get to this point. Pretty much all the elevation is gained within the first .25 miles, after that there are some gradual ups and downs, but nothing like the entry point. After that, worked my way down through all the official trails, top to bottom. Had to back track on the middle trail (.2 miles on way) to make it work. Surprisingly, not much mileage garnered from doing all the trails....only about 1.6 in total. That being said, this is a popular spot for the locals (saw over 50 people on the trails), though most don't get much further than the stairs.

I did this hike a few weeks ago after doing the Black Rock Loop in the White Tanks. Heard about from a friend and thought I would check it out. I got there right around 4:30. Trail was pretty hard to miss with the railroad ties climbing the hill. I wasn't sure what to expect so I did the stairs and was then happily surprised to see the trail continue "au naturale". The trail was not signed, but it was easy to follow this newly constructed trail. There were a couple of user trails as well. I followed one to the top of the secondary hill off to south and then followed the trail that wrapped around it. I ended up doing what I view as the upper lasso loop....while doing this, I noticed there was another trail below the one I was on. (I did. Or do this trail, but I now view that lower trail as part of the lower lasso loop). Didn't see anyone on this back section. Most everyone went to the top of the stairs and turned around. Those people in Verrado wasting a perfectly good trail [-( . Short, but a nice hike with OK elevation. Not bad if you are looking for a quickie.
