Today I hiked to a couple of peaks in La Paz County, out between Salome and Parker. In other words, I was in the middle of nowhere.

The two peaks were:
1) Peak 1674 - Highpoint of the East Cactus Plain Wilderness (elevation of 1,674 feet and prominence of 114 feet)
2) Planet Peak (elevation of 3,141 feet and prominence of 1,541 feet)

I went out there to hike to Planet Peak, and figured that I may as well add the wilderness highpoint while I was out there

Peak 1674
(0.94 miles with 216 feet of AEG)
There wasn't much to this hike. From Swansea Mine Road I went on a powerline road toward the peak. I could have driven to within 300-400 feet of the peak, but I decided to pull over and stretch my legs a little bit. The highpoint is about 100 feet past the wilderness boundary, and is atop a small knoll or butte. There are decent views up there, but I didn't stay too long. Swansea Mine Road is well graded, but you'd need high clearance on the powerline road -- crossover SUV's would likely have some issues with high centering on the powerline road.

Planet Peak
(5.15 miles with 1,803 feet of AEG)
After leaving Peak 1674, I got back on Swansea Mine Road and looped around back to the powerline road and made my way to Planet Peak. I left the powerline road and took another road north toward Planet Peak. Highcentering was an issue on this road, and I got tired of dealing with it so I pulled over and parked. The road went to within a little less than a mile from the summit, and I was happy to do a bit of road walking. Just before getting to the end of the road I saw a group of about 10-12 wild burros, so that was cool.

The road walking went well, but the going was steep and slippery once I left the road. I angled up toward a saddle and then hit a ridgeline up to the summit. I went past several false summits along the way.

The views were nice up there. I located the benchmark and one reference mark. Judging from the summit register log, this one is hiked very frequently, and only by peakbaggers whose names I recognized.

Synopsis
This is a nice, albeit remote area that does not seem to be on many peoples radar screen. The hike to Planet Peak was a bit tougher than I though, but that seems to be the case with a lot of these remote desert peaks.
