This one is interesting in that it's much higher than it looks from downtown LV, probably due to the lack of vegetation even at 7k feet. The road to get out there was long but not terrible, biggest risk is probably a punctured tire if you're not careful.
The lower elevations of this trail go through some Joshua forest, which is kinda cool. Not too steep the first mile, then it starts climbing a little more. No route finding issues at all on this trail, though it does not seem to get a whole lot of use. It was also a little cold and windy on the way up.
Nice think about this trail is you don't really get much of the payoff until you're all the way to the summit, so little risk of turning around early. Once at the top, a nice view of the Spring and Sheep range, downtown LV, and I think I could even see the Hualapai Mountains way in the distance. Worth doing once, but I don't think I'd go back to it. |
