Sus picnic area. bajada wash and then the dirt roads out to esperanza. took that up to wasson and came back on full length of high norris. temps were bearable. felt pretty good overall. had two different 8' hard intervals on the uphill.

Wasn't all that hot and I needed some kind of a hike that wasn't flat. A great storm blew up to the SW and while I took no photos it produced a very nice cloud, a dense column of rain with rain spill out from the out-flowing cold air, and several impressive fronts of dust, too.

Flower are mostly higher up, but there are plenty of them. Lupines and poppies, mostly.

Afternoon hike with Preston to Wasson Peak. On top, I realized it was my 31st summit of Wasson; 1 via Hugh Norris, 3 via this route, 6 via Kings Canyon, and 21 via the Sweetwater Trail. And to think in the past I didn't like Wasson.

Much colder than expected, and there was snow on the trail above the junction with Hugh Norris. Quite windy the entire time. Interestingly, Preston said this was his first time up Wasson since March of 2015 when he ran into me starting up the Kings Canyon Trail as he and his now wife were finishing up (the hike).

Coyote walking the road near the pass coming back.

Jim
This was a new trail and new area for me. Jim drove us out to the trailhead, where a number of hikers were finishing up their hikes. Very nice Sonoran Desert out here. Great trail, well maintained, and we made good time going up. It was a chilly day and a dusting of snow lingered in the shady north facing areas in a few places. Made the summit in about 1:15 minutes. It was cold on top and the sun was getting low, so we soon headed down. Great golden sunset light among the saguaros on the downhill trip made for some colorful photos. A strong wind in the dropping air temp made it seem extra cold. Got back to the trailhead at dusk. Good workout hike and quite scenic.

I finished the last 15 minutes of the hike in Fall, but most of the hike was in summer and it still felt like it. Hot and humid, with storms coming in from the south, and tarantulas on the trail and road near dark. I hope the forecast holds for drier weather and I can head north Saturday for a few days, as with fall here the days are going to be too short before long and the nights cold for camping.

Hike is in nice shape. A suitable alternative to Sweetwater.
