The trail starts out flat for about 200 meters, with views of Lembert Dome to the northeast. It then climbs steadily, ascending about 400-500 feet over a half mile, then flattens briefly before one more short climb. It is well-maintained but rocky in some parts, with tree cover throughout. About 1.2 miles in, we reached the lake, which was serene and beautiful, especially with the mountains in the distance. The water was clear and cold. We saw multiple deer, a couple of which were within 20 meters of us, but they didn't seem concerned about our presence at all. There were numerous ducks on the lake. The trail encircles the entire lake. We enjoyed the views and the quiet, took some pictures, then headed back down to the trailhead.
There were at least 30 cars at the trailhead, but only 3 other groups on the trail, all of whom were resting along the way, and no other humans at the lake. Very peaceful and relaxing. |
