Got a little further in the quest to go through most of clear creek. I have about a five mile section from Calloway heading upstream and then Hanging Gardens to Maiden Falls left. Surprisingly not busy by Point considering that drop in has been social media-ized.

We went down for probably the last WCC trip for this year. Did Point to Tramway and back out. The mileage was quite a bit less than last time so hopefully that means a more direct route was taken. Only a few people out there surprisingly.

Just a quick car camp near Point Trail; wandered from the campsite to where the ridge between Bear Canyon and West Clear Creek tapers, before some storms rolled through.

The hike was just down to the creek. For some reason I didn't feel very good in the morning. A couple of people in the group hadn't been down there, so we headed up to Sundance Canyon since it's one of the highlights of the whole canyon. A little bit of dripping from the pour-off, which was oddly entertaining.

The water temperature has already dropped quite a bit, and is approaching wet suit territory if you need to swim.

Next section of West Clear Creek - down Point Trail up to Tramway and back out. It started raining a bit on the way out so we hustled out the last section to the top.

Starting at the trailhead at 9:00 AM, I spent a total of 4 hours slowly making my way from hole to hole while having great luck on the fly rod.

Typically I will head up-stream, but due to my late start and the group of 6 doing just that head of me, I went left/down-stream and found solitude for the next couple of hours. I could see signs of high water from the recent rains, but did not think that the current water level was noticably higher than it was the last time I was down there 3-4 weeks ago.

Don and I were looking for a quick weekend getaway with some water, figured with the recent rains, we decided on West Clear Creek via The Point Trail. 1/2 a mile straight down to the water, with an ascent of 1,058. Absolutely beautiful. Sat on a beach for a bit and had a snack, then went left. Boulder hopping and wading in the water, which was colder than expected. Went back to our beach spot and went right. Saw this other beach across a body of water. Decided to check it out. Ditched backpacks and went for it. Water was deeper than we thought, up to my chest, but we made it. Just around the bend was a 200 foot trickling waterfall. Very impressive. Headed back to truck and went home. Another amazeballs adventure with my soulmate ♥.

Nice day out in the WCC. Luna enjoyed swimming around and sprinting up and down the creekside. Elizabeth and I enjoyed finding wild rose that had strong but different scents between different bushes. Lots of blooming wildflowers today.

The trail down to the creek was pretty steep but relatively short. The road in was in pretty good shape. I think a sedan would be ok driving slowly. Only one car at the trailhead and one family that was upstream from where the trail drops into the creek. We went downstream.

Temps were super pleasant in the 80's. I need to find the time to get out here more often. Very special place.

I can't believe I hadn't been into WCC from this trail before.

When @LindaAnn did this earlier this summer it put it on my radar for a time when I needed a shorter hike.

I left this note from Route Scout using voice to text. I'm not changing it, you'll get the gist
0.03 miles - 7:56 am
The smell of campfires is overpowering at the trailhead. And here I thought cocaine Nina was a no campfire zone

I was the 5th car to the TH at around 8am. I got going and saw nobody all the way down to WCC. It's a steep, loose trail that is you need to take your time on. Making matters worse, the humidity had me sweating and fogging up my glasses going downhill.

At WCC there was a group of 3 fathers camping with their sons in the gravel area.

I headed downstream to check things out. There is no way to stay dry, so you just wade through the creek where you had to. For the part I did the water here never got more than Boys Deep. When I got to the first swimmer, I turned around. I was not prepared for total immersion today.

Going upstream I passed the campers again and exchanged pleasantries.

My goal was to see how far I could go upstream without having to swim. There are faint to decent use trails for my entire track, but once again, you are going to get wet. I saved Sundance Canyon for the return. I just love me some WCC. I probably took more photos/mile than on most other hikes. The lushness and geology is striking.

I passed a group of campers (in a sweet spot, there are many) and 2 guys fishing. At the first swimmer I took a short break and made my way back.

Getting into Sundance Canyon was the deepest water I went through. Nips deep here. Definitely a must see when you are down here.

Sundance Canyon
[ youtube video ]

On the way out of Sundance I was going to check out a small cave on the right. As I made my way towards it I changed my mind as a black cat with a white stripe was making it's way in.

Getting back towards the climb out, there were now more than 20 people swimming and jumping into the water. On the climb out, I passed easily 30 people making their way down.

I had no idea how popular this place is.

If I do it again it will be a weekday.

Gathered a small group and went on a new canyon adventure! I plotted a route to take us through a section of west clear creek to explore more around bear canyon starting off at point trail and heading downstream. We met at 8:30am to quickly set up camp then a few of us went to drop off a shuttle vehicle at the Calloway trailhead, which was our exit point. This was where our first hiccup came in, as the directions I had pinned from google maps were completely off. We were in a maze of awful roads for a while before finally reaching the correct location and returning to the rest of the group. They had waited about 2 hours for us to get the shuttle situated, so we were starting the canyon way later than intended. It was a mob scene at point trail and even in the bottom going both directions, but after about 1.5 miles they disappeared. :y: The canyon was beautiful, but it was a mixture of extremely slippery creek walking, or thorny bushwhacking on the sides. We each fell countless times, and were bleeding as well. There were a few swimmers along the way that would have been difficult to bypass, but we didn’t need to inflate floaties. It was slow moving down the canyon and the bushes just got thicker as we continued on. We finally made it to our exit point at Calloway which was super steep switchbacks, but a defined path at least. This was pretty brutal for a day hike given how slow moving it was, but it was definitely a beautiful one! Definitely make sure to have a lot of fuel for this one since it’s so grueling. Glad to have friends up for any adventure! Camped near point TH and celebrated @john9l’s birthday! Woke up nice and chilly which was awesome :D

Another Section of the magical West Clear Creek in the books with my brother from another dimension. Dropped off a vehicle at the Point TH and drove up to the labyrinth that is the road to the Maxwell Trail. Didnt get started until about Noon. Maxwell was great.. super easy going with just a couple switchbacks down to the creek. Jumping in the water that first time is the best. There is not really a trail, but there is a pretty good path through. Mostly stayed out of the water, but you do go knee deep a few times. Made great time as we passed the glyphs and then Tramway. Found a great spot for camp after a long day of hiking (2 hours  ). Did some fishing and hung out on the beach the rest of the day. Hiking over to the point trail in the AM, we passed more people than we saw all the previous day. Every camp spot was taken. Literally 150 people passed us going in and out of the canyon. It was quite the show watching people change their shoes and freak out about getting wet. Hiked up a bit past Bear Canyon and made camp for the night after an exhausting 3 miles. Needless to say, this section of the canyon is about 3-4x faster moving than downstream of Calloway, with the exception of the last 4 miles of actual trail nearing BullPen. I loved the Point Trail coming out. No switchbacks, just straight to the point and straight up. About 2 miles short of the whole WCC now, gonna finish this year sometime.

Wanted to do something easy and relaxing. Got to the trailhead between 1 and 2pm. There were 8 vehicles at the trailhead, and many of the occupants were hanging out up there.

We descended to the Creek and explored downstream, maybe a half mile into Bear Canyon, where we did some rock climbing. There was so much green, it looked like a rainforest in some areas, but no water.

We headed back to WCC and went upstream a little bit. The sky was perfect, only a few clouds, a lot of birds. The water was a little chilly, so we mainly stayed on the use trails along the sides. Enjoyed the views, had some beers, checked out Sundance Canyon on the way back. We saw about 12 people total at the creek, and almost all of them were within 20 yards of where the Point Trail arrives at the creek. Guided and encouraged a couple who were struggling on the trail back up. Overall a very laid-back trip.

The road was in decent condition although a bit bumpy in spots. There were already a good amount of cars at the TH at 8:30am! It was overcast in the morning and a bit chilly. We decided to head over to explore Sundance canyon since nobody else was in there. Such a cool little spot and enjoyed views from a cave/alcove before exiting. We made our way down the canyon and had a brief pit stop at the spring. Skies started to look a bit dark, but we kept moving forward. From looking at storm radar earlier, I knew the heavy rains weren’t going to start until approx 2:30pm, so we had plenty of time. We warmed up in the sunshine for a bit, then the rain started up again. Light rains on and off had us decide to turn around. When we got back to the entry, it was sunny again, so we decided to head off and explore the creek heading towards bear canyon. Wow, what a treat! There were beautiful canyon walls lined with hanging gardens and gorgeous flowers. Our aim was to relax and float in a larger pool just downstream, but then the rain started back up. As it was nearing afternoon, it was time to head back to the exit. We were shocked at the amount of families and backpacking groups entering the canyon in the afternoon, while it was raining and thunder was roaring. A woman in jeans even asked us how many more minutes to the water; she’d only gone 1/4 mile if that.... 😬 this spot sure is beautiful, but a tad on the crowded side for my liking. Would definitely go back to explore bear canyon though!

Forest roads were in nice condition to point trail, which had 20 cars or so in the lot. This trail is short, steep , and really cool. Ferngully. A huge tree snapped and fell on our way down making a wicked noise in the canyon. Once down we hiked upstream to a sweet campsite across from a little spring coming out of the wall across the creek. In this spot a Neal nice trail appears, but not sure for how long. This is one of the coolest spots if ever been to. Totally thick with huge trees .the steep hike up isn’t too bad but I didn’t have a heavy pack. Saw a lady with bare feet hiking down on the way out, wearing a church dress.👏. I can’t wait to get back here , all my other summer hikes are now on hold until I spend more time down here. Couldn’t figure out how to post photos, maybe next time

I saw a very brief description of this area that included directions to get to the trailhead. Had no idea that this was the Point Trail! I wish I would have known so I could have read other’s triplogs in advance. I just love this site!! Anywho...we hiked down the steep rocks to the creek. Changed into my Tevas headed upstream. What a little slice of Heaven! Had the the area all to ourselves. Started to hear thunder as we headed back up and out to the trailhead - certainly wouldn’t want to hike up those rocks when wet!

By sheer coincidence, it's been exactly 3 years since I last took my kids on this hike. We got started a little before 9:30 and headed down Point Trail. Steep, slippery, dusty, etc. Nobody fell, so that was good. Don't wear light colored clothes on this one, because the dirt along here is like ash, and you will be a mess in no time. Took a break when we reached the creek, then headed upstream to Sundance Canyon. We followed the path in places, other times it was easiest in the water, which most mostly between knee to hip deep on me when carefully looking for the shallowest places. Chest deep at times on the kids. The pool at the entrance to Sundance was deep, as always. I found a spot where it was only neck deep on me, so I waded across with the 8yr old on my back. Despite my telling him several times to hold my shoulders, he chose to wrap his arms tightly around my neck. That was fun. The 10yr old swam across no problem. Spent a few minutes looking around, then started heading back out. Saw one group of people heading in while we were climbing back out-friendly group of scouts from Vegas. We finished up just as it started sprinkling. Not much rain, just enough to mess up the dust on my vehicle. The road in off Hwy 260, 144- :next: 149- :next: 142- :next: 142E is in good shape (sedan friendly when dry) except for the last little bit of 142E.

With Fossil Creek Rd still closed, we travelled east on 260 towards WCC. Roads to Point Trail were in good condition. Hiked down and then upstream. Beginning to see some fall color.
