Opted for an easy hike with Wyatt & Harlow. Got started shortly after 0900 and headed uphill. Most of the hike is on a dirt road, so easy walking. Some mud from yesterday’s weather. Saw a big white dog ahead of us, but he disappeared. Not sure who he belonged to, because there was nobody else out there. The final 300’ climb to the summit is steep. Cool and breezy up top, where we rested for a few minutes before retracing our steps back down.

The drive in is rougher than it was last year. Good medium clearance for sure. I used 4wd thru the muddiest sections.

Hiked up to Cape Horn Peak with Reagan & Harlow. Wyatt was feeling sick, and he wasn’t faking it, so we’ll see if anyone else catches whatever he has during this vacation.

Light rain and 46 degrees as we got started. Easy hiking up the forest road. Lots of trees, nice views of the lake, although the rain and clouds hindered any clear shots. I had a somewhat accurate track to use as a general guide. There are a ton of old logging roads on this mountain, so some spots weren’t entirely obvious. One wrong turn at a fork added some extra walking.

The rain stopped as we neared the summit, then started sleeting for a few minutes as we were up top. Reagan was okay with crossing the ridge up top. It was kind of messy hiking thru that short section—rough “trail”, lots of downed trees and vegetation. Not terrible, but everything we walked thru was rain soaked or muddy. Would have been really good views if the clouds weren’t so low.

Once back on the road, it was a fast walk to finish. Saw a few grouse. Nobody else out there today. Dirt bike tracks indicate these roads get some weekend activity though. Nice hike, with some good views for minimal effort.
