As for the hike, uphill through dense vegetation right off the bat. Trail was easy to follow though. No views until I reached the lake, then I could see the lookout perched high above. Saw some moose tracks, but nothing else.
More hiking through the trees after the lake. The turn in the trail where it meets the road was a little confusing. Didn’t quite match up with what I had read during my research. Took a moment to make sure I was headed the right direction. After that, the trail was easy to follow.
The higher I climbed, the steeper it got, but the views kept getting better and better. Great 360 degree views from the summit. Looked at the cabin and tower, rested for a moment, then headed back down.
Once back at the confusing turn, I wanted to take the road back to the truck. Again, a moment of trial and error, before deciding a trail heading south (opposite direction of what I expected) was the right one. Sure enough, it veered northwest and hit the road before too long. The road had nice views and it was a quick walk back to my truck.
Despite the relatively short hike vs long drive, this was a great hike. Temps around 50 all day, mix of clouds and sun. Didn’t see anybody else. |
