I wanted to do this hike last year but things kept getting in the way, so I was happy to finally be able to do this hike to the summit of West Spanish Peak.

I began the hike on the West Peak Trail, which is a great trail to hike on. The tread is good and there are switchbacks on the steeper sections. After 2.8 miles the trail ended at the tree line, and from there it was a steep climb on talus slopes to the summit -- I gained 1,600 feet in 0.9 miles. Fortunately the footing was mostly good on the talus, which isn't always the case when hiking on talus. I didn't set any speed records on this portion of the hike, and I stopped a few times to check out the awesome views while climbing up.

There were great views at the summit, and it was interesting to look down at the igneous dikes north of West Spanish.

This was an enjoyable hike, and I was glad that I was able to do the hike.
