Hike 2 on the day. After a lunch in town we headed up to Diamond Head for our entry reservations.

It was getting kind of hot and humid, so Deb only made it part way up and went back down to wait for me in the shade. There's a couple of short lived steep sections, but really not too bad.

Views at the top were incredible.

I especially enjoyed the climbing through the 225' tunnel, the Pillbox and down the spiral staircase, which was part of this hike.

You will definitely not be alone on this hike, which is the reason many of the popular state parks in Hawaii charge for entry and give you a specific time to visit.

Made the mandatory reservation and hiked up (or rather walked, it's entirely "paved") Diamondhead with my wife and oldest daughter. As we were coming down, met a local who does the hike twice a day (he's well into "thousands" of times)...he showed me a pic of a bottleneck area BEFORE the reservation system was in place...could NOT believe the amount of people/traffic this trail has...amazing; was a good move despite the cost and red-tape.

Uneventful hike, great views...overcast our entire week over there...

Mrs OH and I took our oldest granddaughter, Grace, to Oahu for a week as part of a continuing tradition of taking each grandchild on a week long trip to the destination of their choice within the US upon their graduation from 8th grade. Grace selected Oahu because of her interest in WWII history and Pearl Harbor where it started for the US. Hiking to the top of Diamond Head was on Grace's list of things to do and the first thing we did on day 1. We used Uber for transportation from our rented condo in Waikiki to the trailhead. This was definitely the way to go - no problems with full parking lots and parking lot fees. We used Uber frequently throughout the week and never had to wait longer than about 2 minutes for them to pick us up.

This was a short hike on a mostly paved trail but it's steep in some areas and fully exposed to the sun. There are great views all the way to the top - and lots of people.

Easy day hike to the top of Diamond Head crater overlooking Honolulu and Waikiki Beach. The trail is well maintained, but crowded and it gets hot.

Nice morning hike with Nancy. Started shortly after opening at 7am. Not too crowded at the top.

I finally agreed to do Diamond Head, which turned into a (fairly difficult) game of weaving through other tourists. I came, I saw, I had fun, but I'm not interested in coming back. :D

I walked form my hotel, The Modern, to the top of Diamond Head. I couldn't help but include one photo from Waikiki beach that I loved. All in all a very beautiful hike with some interesting history. Be prepared for crowds. Coming back down I saw a taxi and couldn't resist a ride back to the beach :)

Awesome walk with lots of great scenery and incredible history, but they say 1,500 people per day hike it. Not exactly a wilderness experience.

Did a pre-race warm up run to the Diamond Head Crater from my place in Waikiki on a spur trail/sidewalk and up to the 1.5 mile trail to the summit of Diamond Head.

Our first day on Oahu. We walked up Diamond Head with a thousand other people!
After that we drove up the Windward Coast and stopped at a few beaches and then met up with friends in Kaneohe.
