We parked in a camping area a little past Tortilla Flat and made our way to an old dirt road. We followed that until it ended at an old collapsed bridge. We started to go up a drainage, and conveniently there was a path waiting for us that led us to the top of the ridge. From there we followed the ridge for a while, taking photos and enjoying the horrible views. We finally decided to turn around at a sort of cliffout point. It would have been possible to backtrack a little and maneuver around and continue, but it was cold, especially at the top of the ridge with a cold breeze hitting us constantly. It was an easy hike, but fun and scenic with a little scrambling here and there. We got to try out our new Panasonic Lumix camera, and I tracked our route with my fancy new Garmin Oregon 450 GPS device that Santa gave me last night. I don't know how to work with that route on my PC yet, though I've opened it in Google Earth. Sure could use some help, but I'll get it figured out, eventually. |
