| no partners | | I decided to hike up to Marys Peak (elevation of 4,097 feet and prominence of 3,357 feet), the highpoint of Benton County. Actually I should call this Marys Non-Peak, since HAZ does not consider it to be a peak.
I took the East Ridge Trail, although I could driven near the summit and done a short road walk instead. Views are limited along the trail, but it goes through a forest of 150-200 year old trees, so I enjoyed the hike. There was noble fir at the upper 500 feet or so of vertical, and lower down was largely douglas fir and western hemlock.
There were some open meadows near the summit, which offered some nice 360 degree views. However, it was a cloudy day so the views were not as nice as they would have been on a clear day.
I enjoyed this hike and am glad that I was able to do it. The East Ridge Trail has great tread with lots of switchbacks, which makes the hike seem much less steep than it actually is. |
