Hiked up Banshee Peak in Mt. Rainier National Park. Clouds filled the lowlands to the southeast. Clear day with views to Mt. Adams,
Mount Hood, Mount Saint Helens and Mt. Rainier. Saw several backpackers doing the Wonderland Trail around Mt. Rainier as well as many day hikers heading to the meadows at Summerland. Saw one other person doing Banshee Peak today.

Even though the weather forecast didn't look good, we decided to head up to Summerland and possibly Panhandle Gap. Weather looked good at the start but clouds quickly rolled in. Got a brief soaking just after crossing Frying Pan creek but afterwards things started to look a little better. Flowers are out but the best days are still to come I think. We continued on toward Panhandle Gap but the clouds gave us pause so we headed back down to the top of Summerland for an early lunch. When the thunder started we decided it was time to leave. Saw some lightening flashes, too but it seemed like most people weren't worried and there was still a steady stream of hikers headed up as we headed back down. Still, we enjoyed the hike and the time away from the Seafair madness.

Beautiful day on the trail today. Trail to Summerland is completely snow free. Flowers are blooming. Saw a couple of marmots but no goats or bears today. From Summerland to Panhandle Gap there are some snow patches to cross close to the gap. The last one was a little tricky so I put on the microspikes for it but the couple that came up behind me did just fine with just boots and trekking poles. The others were all easily crossed. Mt. Adams was barely visible as clouds and smoke had it almost hidden. But the views from the gap were great nonetheless. Clouds looked like they were rolling in so I headed down but I saw a lot of people on the way up.
