| no partners | | This is a steady climb past the 200' tall Makahiku Falls, through a bamboo forest and ending at the 400' tall Waimoku Falls.

Most of the hike is under tree cover. Some of the typically muddy areas have been covered with boardwalk.
You still need to watch your footing with tree roots and rocks.
It was a windy day and walking through the bamboo forest was noisy with the stalks/trunks banging against each other. At one point I checked the temp, it was 74 degrees with 99% humidity.
Back at the beginning of the trail, we checked out short the Kuloa Point Loop to 7 Sacred Pools.
We met and talked with a Park Ranger who gave us some insight into some other hikes on Maui. She also recommended the best place to view the sunrise up on Haleakala that we had reservations for in a few days. It worked out great and we did not have to fight the crowds. |
