Hiked from the supplemental parking lot west of the visitor’s center. Hiked up Skyline Trail with a very brief piece on the Waterfall and Alta Vista trails, and a short turnoff on the Glacier Vista Trail. On the Skyline to the Upper Skyline and then back down the Skyline to
The Golden Gate Trail. Brief turnoff at the Myrtle Falls viewpoint.

Beautiful day up on the mountain. Smoke wasn't too bad unless you were looking off to the southeast. Saw marmots, chipmunks, grouse and one bear! Fall colors are starting to arrive. A fair number of people on the trail today but still less crowded than a summer weekend. Just a short section of one lane traffic on SR706 but the wait was less than a minute each time. Parking at the main Paradise lot was still available when we arrived around 9:30AM. While fall colors may be coming out, it felt more like summer. Hot and dusty along the trail which has very few shady spots. But we'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Beautiful day on the mountain today. We did a shortened version of the Skyline Loop counter-clockwise from Paradise. We thought about going over toward Mazama Ridge but after getting to the Edith Creek area decided to take the Skyline Loop instead. Looking at our GPS track, we took a shortcut and ended up climbing up just below Panorama Point. Had a great lunch looking at the mountain and listening to the almost constant rock falls. We used micro spikes but snowshoes may have been better as the snow was pretty slushy, especially as the day wore on.

With Nancy and Max. Last time we three were here was 1993. Max was 12 weeks old and in my backpack. Brenda was 20 and working the summer at Paradise Inn. She summited Mount Rainier that summer. This visit was clear blue sky and warm. At Panorama Point we saw Mounts Adams, Hood and St. Helens. BTW Brenda returned to Rainier 2 years ago and hiked to Camp Muir with her husband and their oldest, Gabe, who was then 12 years old. Rainier has very special places for all of us. Nancy and I first visited the mountain in 1988. That day was also a clear and blue sky day. As I stared the man next to me asked if it was my first time there. Said it was. He said it was his 4th, but 1st time he'd seen the mountain.

Just a gorgeous day at Mt. Rainier. Was surprised to find only about 10 cars in the lot at Paradise when we arrived just before 10 AM. Not a cloud in the sky. Temps were a little chilly to start but overall a perfect day for hiking. Saw our fair share of wildlife along the hike. We did the Skyline and High Skyline Loop. Just under 6 miles 2,000 feet of elevation gain. A great day hike. Views of Mt. Rainier along 90% of the trail. Views of Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens from the top point of the trail (just over 7,000 ft) as well. The fall colors are really coming out now and the trail is still snow free except for a patch just past Panorama Point (but it's not an issue if you take the High Skyline trail). Definitely worth the 6 hour round trip drive from the 'Couv.

Walked with Mom and Cliff from the Paradise parking lot intending to go as far as the waterfall. Mom couldn't make the last hill so we went up to the falls individually. The meadows were packed with wildflowers, and the overcast had completely burned off on the drive up to the Mountain.
