Went out on Friday with HikeU, MTG, and thatonedude to do a loop that is a little different than the one Joe did.

The loop we did this time starts at the Hiero trailhead and proceeds from there past the petroglyphs and up the canyon all the way to the ridgeline trail. We made a right on the ridgeline trail and headed SE over to the intersection with the trail that goes up to peak 5057. Took a right there and headed up to the peak. From there we hiked downhill on the ridges SW of peak 5057 until we were back at the petroglyphs. We then made a left and hiked the last mile and a half to the car.

The distance is approximately 7.5 to 8 miles. This was a very tough hike, and it was very hot on the way down. There is almost no shade on this entire hike, so don't try it unless the weather is permitting. Fortunately, we got a very early start, so it didn't get really hot until we were almost back to the petroglyphs. There was alot of bouldering and crawling, and one or two VERY minor 'climbs'.

The guy that flies around the supes in an old blue Navy plane buzzed by pretty close when we were on the peak. It was awesome!

Started from the 7th Ave Trailhead and headed up to the top and down to the central trailhead. Then turned around and went back the same way. 5.4 miles and about 1500 feet of climbing. Perfect weather.

I did this hike as an out and back from the north trailhead to the south trailhead. Up to the top, down the other side, then back the same way. Great workout. 700 foot climb each way.

Did a one night backpack to Reavis Ranch on Saturday. Camped not far from the old Ranch site. Great trip. Took the side trail to Plow Saddle Spring on the way there, then cut back over to the Reavis Trail on the Frog Tanks. Added maybe a mile to the trip distance. No water in the trough at Plow Saddle Spring, but some in the creekbed nearby. Plenty of water in Reavis Creek.

Weather at Reavis was COLD! We recorded a low temp in camp (on a Kestrel digital weather tracker) of 7 degrees! We had a light dusting of snow on Saturday, then the clouds blew out and some really cold air came in sometime around midnight.

Great trip though. This was my fourth time doing this trail over the years; I'm sure I'll be back.
