It gets really hot in the summer time so bring lots of water with you. And drink it too. The first time I went I got severely dehydrated and on two other occasions there were people down in the canyon that died during my trip. So be carful. It is usually on the way out, hitting the switch backs during the middle of the day. Once down in the canyon there is quite a few things to do. You can just hang out at the falls(Navajo, Havasupai, Mooney, and Beaver), there are a few trails to hike (the Apache trail or hike up Carbonate Canyon). There is a old iron mine used during the World War. It was quite an operation. Be careful if you decide to go in. There are shafts that go straight down dozens of feet. If you are really adventurous hike all the way down to the Colorado River. Its quite a hike but if you leave early in the day you can make it there and back in one day. |
