What a great morning for a sunrise hike! The trail actually wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. Swatted 5 black bees w my hat, almost didn't wear it but am glad I did. Actually maybe they were attracted to the hat given they were right in my face! We'll never know. Thanks for another great hike, Laurie, can't wait for the next...

My first time to Tom's Thumb and it was gorgeous! Arrived while dark and waited for the gate to open and for Laurie to arrive. Watching the sunrise was the perfect way to start this hike, and day for that matter. While still in the parking lot Laurie introduced me to James_in_Az. Nice to meet another HAZ member! It felt like the temps were in the 80s the whole time, probably not the case but there was a nice breeze and we were in the shade for most of the hike. We saw a rabbit and several lizards. Not much for flowers, I only took one pic in that department. I think if this were a closer drive it would be a weekly hike for sure. Thanks to Laurie for another fun hike..just love hiking w u!!

Started at 5:15pm it wasn't too hot.
There were only 4 other cars parked there so I got a front row space. The views were very clear today. And there were lizards everywhere.
When I got back to my car there was broken glass everywhere from a car that was parked right behind mine. :scared: This is twice in a row that someone has been broken into here.

I'm not really sure how far I hiked today b/c I didn't go all the way to the top. I just had an hour so that's all I did from start to finish. And I had to park soooooo far away so 20 minutes of that time was in walking to the trailhead. As I was leaving a lady said that up the street on one of the side streets some guy that had been hiking for only 30 minutes had gotten his window smashed in and his stuff got stollen. What a bummer. I started at 5:30 pm and ended at 6:30 pm and was in the shade the whole time which was lovely. I really love this hike but I don't like the parking situation. Just wish there were more of it.

This was a pleasant lil stroll at sunset.....except for the times Joe had me going in front to weed out the snakes for his passing. :scared: What a scare-d-cat! :D The temp was good and the scenery was beautiful. We didn't go in too far...would like to come back and explore more in this area. I saw one lil brown snake and one rabbit.
All in all....another great Arizona sunset :)

This hike has got to be one of my fav's w/ Joe so far. Starting w/ the drive up and seeing all the saguaro in bloom. The gorgeous puffy clouds, blue skies, perfect temps and the sweet smells during the entire hike were all wonderful. I really liked how we hiked for the majority of the hike right along the creek. Even when we were not right on the creek you could still hear the water. I would love to come back here and camp right on the creek. I think this is the perfect place to bring kids. There were so many large flat rocks to play on and a good mix of shallow and deep water. Although a tad cold on this day.
Overall I had such a great time and can't wait to go back.

I'll have to check w/ Crzy4AZ about our official time on this one....but it seemed like less than a couple hours?
I think we started around 9 and it was perfect weather the whole time.
Tons of diff. wild flowers. The globe mallows were everywhere and still lots of brittle bush in bloom. I also saw fiddleneck that had white blooms. The cool part of this hike was that all the mountains in the surrounding areas were looking very yellow from the brittle bush.
I think this would be a great hike for kids b/c the trail if pretty much smooth and wide.

1st time on this side of the mtn. The brittlebush were very bright the whole trail until we started to get towards the top where they were starting to dry up. They are def. the main flower on this trail.

We started this hike at noon and the temps were perfect for the whole hike. The wildflowers were sooooo much better than the last time Tanya and I were here. The brittlebush were amazing. I was surprised to find the poppies still very alive and colorful. There were lots of lupine, scorpion weed and fiddlenecks. The creosote were blooming too! It is so nice to hike a trail lined w/ wildflowers. There was this one bush w/ red berries (see pic) that I only saw one of and I'm not sure what it was but it was very pretty. About 3/4 into the hike a swarm of bees flew overhead...that was a little unnerving.
All around great day for a hike!

What a great day for a sunset. The cool part was watching the reflection of the sun on the buildings in downtown Phoenix. They went through all the different shades and finally were a pretty red color. It's def. starting to dry out here. There were patches of poppies that were in bloom and then right next to them many that had dried up. The fiddlenecks were very pretty as the sun was just about set.

Another great hike w/ Tanya! We decided to this backwards and add on a little more than the last time. I'm so glad we did b/c we ran into a pack of about 7 or 8 coyotes. They were gorgeous. This was the 1st time I'd seen them in person. We also came across 2 rangers on horses that were kind enough to offer us maps and info.
It was a gorgeous day for wild flowers too. Lots of lupine and brittle bush. Lots of poppies and scorpion weed too. I'm still amazed at how green it is there.
This is such an easy hike...I'm surprised we don't usually see more runners here.

What's not to like about this hike? The weather was perfect to start with....pretty breezy but I was thankful for it. I would highly recommend sunscreen for this hike as you're in the sun the whole time. There are many pretty flowers and cacti to check out and there were these intresting little beetles (sort of looked like winged cow killer wasps?) and they were mating in big groups.
It was nice having lunch up on the peak w/ such great panoramic views.
I think I had the most fun on all the cable sections and of course the great fun I had w/ my new hiking buddy :)
I would love to come here again and try going up the other side.

1st let me say that being in great company on this hike was what made it so wonderful. :) The weather was perfect from start to finish. The flowers were so pretty and there are great views the whole way up.
Note to self: talking makes one out of breath while hiking :sweat:

Got started around 10:30a.m. and the parking lot wasn't full but the trail was packed. This was my 1st time doing this trail and I loved all the views the whole way up. About 3/4 up I accidentally found that my camera has a zoom feature!!! However, I had already taken the allowed 23 photos given my camera s.u.c.k.s. Note to self....must get new camera!!!
Tanya and I had such a wonderful time and I'm sure this will be on the list of regular hikes.

Can't believe I forgot to mention the rain! It only sprinkled a few times on the way up. On the way down it got a little more heavier. It was the best part of this hike b/c there was the beautiful rainy views and that Arizona dirt/rain smell. BUT the best part was when you could smell the sweet creosote at the same time....just perfect! :)

What a gorgeous day to hike Camelback for the 1st time. Joe and I shuttled this b/w Cholla TH and Echo Canyon TH. There were def. more people on the Echo Canyon side and I can see why, the views were wonderful there.
I def. want to do this one a few more times before it gets really hot. I think that'll give me a month, right?
