Took my first trip EVER to Fossil Creek. I've lived here 36 years and have never been. I know now why the USFS has imposed all of the camping and fire restrictions as this is truly an amazing place! The hike down was fairly easy and I picked up a little trash along the way. When I arrived at the dam, a girl that was there with 2 others and her dog asked me if I wanted a beer. She said some d-bags left an ice chest full of ice and beer down there from their hike in the days prior and didn't feel like dragging it back up the trail. I enjoyed a frosty Coors Light and went for a swim. I stuck around for an hour for conversation and headed back up...dragging the now empty ice-chest full of beer cans and other bits of garbage that I collected along the way. Gotta keep AZ clean ya know!

WARNING TO ALL BACKPACKERS:
The USFS is now enforcing the forest order banning overnight camping and campfires in the Beaver Creek area from the end of the Beaver Creek campground (it is open) to 5 MILES upstream. That is about 1 mile upstream from the swimming hole known as "The Crack" The closure actually went into effect back in November but the USFS lacked funds and manpower for signage and enforcement. The "No Camping / Campfire" signs are posted at the trailhead and along the Bell Trail. The forest service was out on the trail today in a service truck looking for campers. I saw them remove some overnighters just upstream from the gauging station off the Wier Trail. Those campers were NOT happy. Here is the forest order link and closure order. The closure order is on the closure page, third from bottom.

Well, I went out and cleaned up all the graffitti that was placed around Bell Crossing last month. The USFS owe's me $4.00 for a wire brush. But, the ranger that I spoked with sent me a confirmation email today with the Forest Order closing Beaver Creek Wilderness to camping and campfires. This is due to the pigs that leave garbage and fire rings all over..not the lack of rain. Order is at the bottom of the page on this link.

Took a buddy of mine to Beaver Creek for the first time to do some hiking / fishing. I posted photos in the photo logs. We caught fish and had a great time. The GRAFFITTI really upset me. It is visible from the overlook on the Bell Trail just as you start your descent to Bell Crossing. It is on a large, flat sections of rocks at the next large swimming hole about 1/4 mile below the crack. Does anyone know who did this ? If so, please contact the US Forest Service, Beaver Creek Ranger Station at 928-282-4119.

Took a group of T-Mobile workers and friends yesterday morning after researching hikes around the Crown King Area. The trailhead / parking lot was easy to find as there were already 2 cars parked there. According to our hike on GPS, the round trip to Big Dipper pool is actually 4.2 miles with an elevation drop to the pool of 1200 ft. The creek is running slow and the Big Dipper swimming hole was fairly murky from all of the monsoon run-off. I would like to come back here in the spring after the snowmelt and before monsoons hit. I think we ran into desert-boonie6 from this website and his buddies. Nice to see guys packing out garbage..thanks ! Some of our group continued up the Algonquin trail after crossing the creek but we all made it back to the top fairly unscathed. Then it was off to Crown King and the Mill restaraunt for food and brewskis.
