Hiked Reavis Ranch trail for an overnighter on 1/24/09 with my son. Started at around 9am. The road to the trailhead was well graded and could be driven by a passenger car easily. I would only worry if there was recent rain, making the road muddy.

The weather was great. High around 70, low at the ranch was right at freezing, as we had frost on the ground in the morning.

The hike was nice in that it kind of goes through several stages of scenery. Starting in the high desert, hiking on through a rolling hills, meadow-like area. Then through the mountainous region to windy pass, feeling like hiking on top of the world. Then up, over and around another small mountain before descending into reavis valley.

In the valley, there's lot's of trees, animal prints and scat, and just a nice feel. Other than the isolation, I can understand why old man Reavis built his ranch there.

I will say, this is not an easy hike if you don't train for it (I didn't). It's long (over 9 miles each way) with lots of loose rock. I would highly recommend ankle support!

All in all, a great hike, and I plan on returning when the apples are back and ripe!

Hiked 7.2 miles of the Hawes loop trails. Started out comfortable at 5:30am, but got close to 100 degrees by around 8 o'clock!

The trails were in good condition, we ran into a 4ft rattler just off the trail about half way through the hike.
