| no partners | | I took my girlfriend into the Superstitions, around Miner's needle. This was her first real hike. We followed the trail around the North side of the needle, moving west. The west side of the needle is a rock ledge, so all we had were cairns to follow. We followed a cairn for maybe 100 feet and and saw no obvious trail so we decided we'd make our own trail to the trailhead. We followed the ravine running southwest away from the needle. It was gorgeous in there but slow going. There were lots of small cliffs to negotiate as well as lots of bushwacking and loose rocks. The wash dumped us out near the trail we followed in. I'm unsure on the miles but it took at least 6 hours and with the ravine added in, I'm assuming around 6-7 miles as a loop. As a side note, about half a mile in I was wondering what I had gotten us into. I then noticed 2 prints, one a dog and one human and could see the ravine rounding off to the left towards the trail we came in on. Got out at dark for my 2nd straight time. We now have a never ending flashlight always, Thanks Dad. |
