The 136th Street Spur offered a new and challenging walk to Sunrise Peak. No one else was on the trail. The variety of scenery from this walk to the top was much more exciting than the Via Linda route. There were boulders to climb over, unique Saguaros to enjoy, and a silence that actually encouraged meditation.

Camelback Mt from Echo Canyon is one of the most popular hikes for old and young alike. This all-body workout hike insists that you traverse major rocks, steep slops and rocky pathways. Fences keep you from falling off the mountain in some spots. There are numerous hikers at all times. The beauty of the view never grows old, though, from the time I first climbed Camelback many years ago to today the view of the populated land grows. Years ago it seems that Phoenix and the surrounding cities were distinguished by fields and dirt roads. Today the appearance is that of only one city, albeit, huge.

At the top, someone has decorated a Christmas tree this year and has also decorated the lone shrub at the top. The decorations bring a chuckle for the contrast. Clearly, someone has a sense of humor.

Actually hiked from Via Linda to Sunrise Peak. Beautiful day, few hikers on the trail, mostly vacationers. Nice view.

Clear day after a refreshing streak of rain with a little chill in the air. Snow patches still spattered the shaded rocks and scrub. The clean air enhanced the fantastic view. Many hikers were on the trail and as usual I met some of the nicest folks.
