After taking an 18 month hiking hiatus we decided to head up to get out of the Phoenix heat and try a hike. We've hiked around Lynx Lake before and thought we would try the long loop, 4.5 round trip didn't sound too bad since we're getting back into hiking.

We followed the directions, even saw some people actually gold panning near the said area, they must be a permanent fixture specifically for this hike right? ;) One exception we took to the directions were off of the 9263 trail instead of trail #93 it turned into 95 so we took that down to 94. I don't know if this was a section added after the original description or we went off on the wrong one but it was getting warm and after carrying my 9 month old in his hiking carrier we were getting a little worn. We missed seeing the petroglyphs, maybe we'll take the short hike next time to go after those.

Didn't see any wildlife along the way except for a couple small hornytoads and a giant ant hill.

All in all was a nice hike, but I think we're gonna be sore tomorrow.

This was a great day trip up from Phoenix, weather was great! When we arrived there were only a couple of cars out by the road, and only saw about 6 people the entire time. Once we got down in the canyon we followed the creek south, waded through the creek and came across a pool deep enough to swim in. Unfortunately I found this one was deep enough to swim in after my step-daughter dropped her phone and it went in the water, since we were were already wet, we just hung out and swam for awhile. We continued following the creek to another pool and swimming in various pools.

Brought the dogs with us, they enjoyed playing in the creek, we'll definitely be back to do this one again.

Found this hike as part of an Arizona Earthcache that I have wanted to visit. This place was beautiful and so well preserved it was just awe-inspiring. Stayed for a couple of hours and just amazed by the formations around us, hiked around and explored the area for before heading back out to beat the showers.

Quiet location, only saw a couple of other hikers, but they didn't stick around long. We'll definitely be back later in the fall to try and get some pictures after a snow fall.

Decided to visit this location and today seemed like a perfect day to drive up from Phoenix, nice overcast day with some light rain compared to the heat. The dirt road getting to the cave was wet and had some big mud puddles to get through before getting there, but we made it through without any problems.

Once we entered the cave it was incredible to say the least! Seeing not only your breath in the cool air, but the moisture droplets in your breath that seemed to linger in the air (and show up in many photos!). Loved how open the tube was in many parts, seemed like a subway tunnel, if you're claustrophobic you shouldn't have a problem in here. There wasn't a whole lot people in there today which was nice, we'd walk some distance before hearing/seeing anyone else. We were able to turn off our lamps and not see anything, not a spec or glimmer of anything and the rocks seem to be a great sound damper, it was kind spooky to imagine getting out of this place without lamps...It felt like this place was just recently formed, seeing how the lava turns, cracks, folds, ripples, it was unreal.

Had a great time here, did see some graffiti which was unfortunate but I definitely will be back to share this location with some family and friends who I know will enjoy it! Ended the day trip heading over to Sunset Crater area and visiting the Wapatki ruins and the lava field.
