I started the hike at around 1300, and the sun was still peeking through the beautiful oak and alligator juniper trees. The trail is a slight uphill grade until you meet up with the Arizona Trail #31, with an overall elevation gain of about 700 feet. The manzanita is beautiful this time of year; the red bark offset by the intense green folliage. The oaks are changing colours as well, from green to yellow and some full on red. There are numerous points along the trail which open up to beautiful views of the entire forest.

I went up on a clear day, and could see for miles and miles. When you reach the actual Red Rock Spring, you have to search for it a bit, as it bubbles up, then goes underground for a ways. There wasn't any water, so make sure and pack plenty for your adventure. I didn't see much animal life, only a few tracks of what I suspect were mountain lion. There were no other hikers/campers, so I had the trail all to myself. It was amazingly quiet, with the wind whisping through the trees. The huge red rocks spilt all around the trail; along the path the fallen rocks paint a landscape of many different brilliant hues of red. This trail was a perfect day-hike excursion for me and my dog. Enjoy :)

This trip was a blast! The spring was running fairly well with fresh water through Badger canyon. This was only preparation for lay ahead at the Agua Fria. It was running very very well for June. All of those spring showers and the nice snow pack this year helped a ton. Everything is in bloom, from wildflowers, to prickley pear, to Yello Yucca. Also observed a ton of cool reptilian friends including a little frog and a friendly little water snake.

We hiked a few miles in, then decided to take a dip in some of the refreshing pools that had formed in the huge boulderous (is that even a word?) riverbed. Lunch, then a pack out. It was an amazing trip. I recommend getting out there at least once before summer hits, and the awesome pools and waterfalls dry up!

This was my first backpacking trip ever. Went with my dad and brother. Couldn't have asked for a more beautiful hike along the way. The pools provided much needed drinking and relaxing water. All in all had a great time.

Best quote of the trip: "Now, QUICK! Lick your shirt!"

I led a group of 10 close friends for a day trip downstream.Only two had ever been on hikes before. The water was flowing well, and halfway through the trip, just before we ate our lunch on house-sized boulders, we took a dip in the refreshing pools begotten by the spring showers. The flowers were in bloom, and it was green as green can be. The 10 inexperienced hikers were satisfied. We had a great time.
