A large amount of this hike is in sandy washes. It's like walking on the Beach. Your feet sink with every step. It takes a lot out of you. If you try and get out of the wash, you end up right back in the wash. There are some great spots on this hike. The high point!, the palm tree, the tight mini-canyons, the Oven! It's a bad hike for the summer, almost totally exposed. We consumed 32oz going in, and full 100oz hydration bladders each and it was almost not enough. Since we did it in reverse we ended up walking the road back toward Blue Point, We were lucky that someone stopped and asked us if we were ok, they drove us back to our truck. It was still a mile and a half from the point we were picked up and our truck, walking the side of the highway is no joke this time of year. I enjoy hiking in hot weather, but deep sand is no fun. This is an awesome hike, do it in the winter. |
