My first trip to Massacre Falls. Pretty good crowd for a Monday afternoon. Solid traffic going both ways. As a novice hiker, this trail definitely got my heart pumping - a few of the inclines were worthy of respect. Once I got to the "falls", I waited for a 10-person group to vacate and then I had the place to myself for about 10 minutes. Water was falling enough to stand under and get your hair wet if you wanted.

Upon leaving, I took a quick detour on the rock overhang just past the falls (on your right as you are leaving/left if you are approaching). Pretty good views from here - you can see the tip of Weavers Needle. One stomach turning drop if you look over the edge (@_@).

Passed by dozens more on my way back to the parking lot. I felt fortunate to have that isolation at the falls. Good hike - will do again immediately following the next big rain so I can see more of a water flow.

I wanted to get out to Chuparosa after the heavy rains on Christmas Eve. The weather was perfect - overcast, cool and dry. Once I arrived to the canyon, I was greeted by the sounds of running water. It wasn't as much as I expected but still nice to see and hear. The trail from the barbed wire fence to the canyon entrance is easy to find/follow. Once in the canyon, look for the trail as it meanders through the rocks, debris and vegetation. A few cairns help to guide you. Props to those who have bushwhacked through the overgrown brush within the canyon. It really helped! This hike is definitely challenging between the steady incline going in to the loose scree on parts of the trail. Be careful!

One of my favorites in Payson. Easy for my kids and dogs. The weather was warmer than expected - shirt sleeve shirt and shorts was enough even though I had layers ready. Very little traffic - maybe saw about 5 groups in and out. I felt like I had the trail to myself. Quick break at the spring and let the pooch wander and drink the water. Overall, great hike for a quick getaway.
