We started out at the Sabino Canyon parking lot, maybe a couple of hours before sunset. The weather was perfect! We opted for this hike as time was short and we needed to be back for dinner. Needless to say, dinner was late, but this hike was totally worth it!

Using Route Scout we found the trail fairly easily despite the 'maze' of small trails that lead to sabino canyon, sabino canyon dam, seven falls, etc. We thought this would be a routine and relatively unexciting hike - little did we know about the beauty that lay Ahead!

Once we got on the right trail, things began to get steep and never really relented. The sun was going down and we found ourselves smack in the middle of the golden hour! What Views! It was hard to focus in front of us on the trail because the sunset was Gorgeous! The higher we climbed the more spectacular the scenery became. Arizona was once again astounding me with her rugged beauty.

Driven on by the need for more, we only took one little break on the way up. We enjoyed beautiful views of the Catalinas, Tucson, and Rincon mountain ranges. As it got dark, the lights of Tucson to heralded us with their twinkling spell. Sabino canyon could be seen below us on our right hand side. When we got to the end of the trail we could see the lights of people bicycling far below, making their way back down the canyon. The slowly pulsing red lamps atop Mt. Bigelow could be seen to the north.

We stopped at the end of Blacketts Ridge Trail and soaked in the view while having a snack and enjoying the cool evening air.

What a spectacular hike! Fantastic!

We parked at Cam-Boh Picnic Area which is just off Picture Rocks Rd. You will need a Saguaro National Park Pass to do this hike, as it is in Saguaro National Park West. Also according to my research, you will need a State Trust permit as part of the hike goes through this land. Beautiful area with the view of a natural 'cave' halfway up to the saddle. The trail follows a drainage and is at times hard to make out. Look for cairns or you will find yourself going up the difficult parts of the drainage. I did this myself a couple of times. The views from the top are exceptional! Of worthy note is Twin Peaks. There is actually only one peak as the other has been mined flat for limestone. Yes, limestone to make cement. There are lots of birds nesting on the sheer cliff face and it was a treat to watch them harass a hopeful raptor that was in the area. Wonderful hike that was well worth it!
