I went in the afternoon on Sunday. This was a great hike. I found it in a book that I use to for Hikes around the Valley. The book made this hike seem mediocre, but it was far from that.

The first part of the hike is pretty flat, until you reach a small peek by itself. At that point you start to climb. Not a difficult climb but was more that I expected.

This hike has some great views of 4 peaks and some great scenery. You can also see the top of weavers needle to. I came down around dusk and I was blessed to run into a family a deer. They were very kind as to pose for my pictures.

This hike is kid and dog friendly. Well worth the time to hike. No fee to park and you dont need a Tonto pass.

FYI- Make sure you bring a camera!

Hiked Pichaco Peak today via Hunter Trail. It is $6.00 per car to enter the park, head to Barrett Loop to find the trail head. This is not for the faint of heart. It is only 2 mile up but what it lacks in miles it packs in feet. The trail said it was 1500 feet to the top.

I was so proud that I pushed my way up to the saddle in good time and was taken back because I had to go down again. On your way up to the saddle you are on the North side and you make your way down again the south side of the mountain on a pretty strait down area that drops 250 feet. You turn and start going back up again.

Once again you start to ascend into an area call the bowl. Looks like a huge bowl. Almost there.

Once I got to the top the views were great I took some picks. There is the main peak and then a trail the cuts off over to a smaller peak that looks to the north. On my way back down I swung by that north peek before a went down. I was blessed by a couple of turkey vultures out sunning themselves on the rocks. From the poop on the rocks I gathered that they sit up there a lot and keep an eye out for prey. They were not shy and let me get pretty close so that I could take some camera shots of them. How nice, that was the icing on the cake. Great day, Great hike, beautiful view. Must do.

My wife and I went up to Scottsdale and hiked Tom's Thumb. This is a moderate hike with some good views. This hike was different because of all of the huge boulders at top, it doesn't feel like something you would see in Arizona. We had some trouble finding the trail head. The book we used said to turn off 126th Street. This is private property now and gated. You have to go over to a little further about .5 miles you will see a sign that shows you were to turn.

Tom's Thumb is much bigger than it looks from a distance. Only down side to this trail is it heavy congested with other hikers, but it is a must see in hike in the valley.

Went on a hike the my friend. My friend talked to me into getting up really early. I was not into it a first but did like that we were the only one on the mountain. This was a brutal hike, it was strait up once you get off the Arizona trail. I was worth it great views. There is a bench and mail box at the top. Make sure you open the mail box and sign the pad. Plus in the lip of the mail box it give it's history. I wonder how they got that metal bench up there. I would have been hard to carry up.

I come to the Riparian quite often. This is one of the best places to see a great variety in birds species and if you are a photography buff like me, this is a gold mine for pics. Hope you enjoy mine.

This is a very unique hike, in that there is a lot of scrambling over big boulders. This is a very pretty and unique hike. Once you get past the bridge it is fairly secluded. So it is a great quite hike.

Easier to stay to the left hand side when you get to the first boulder set. Also, even thought it is not a high elevation hike, do allow extra time because it is slow going.

Now we only went in a 2-3 miles. Did not realize there was 8 miles?

I went and hiked Flat Iron today. I am glad I did read about how hard it was until after I went. This is one was a tough one! I don't think it is the elevation as much as it is the big stepping you have to do. Make it harder to get down. Despite the difficulty it was worth the trip.

Some get views and the canyon is very unique. Has a huge rock bowl and dry waterfall area that you will not find on any other hike I have ever been on. First half of the hike to the Waterfall is mild but the second half is tough. I had my mother law go with me today and she had to stop about half way up.

NOT A GOOD HIKE FOR DOGS.

My Wife and I went to Saguaro Lake and hiked the Butcher Jones trail. This was a great hike, not to difficult but was a good length around 5 miles round trip. This trail had amazing views and a lot of wildlife. The first part of the hike is nice but when you turn the bend and head down toward Burro Cove the views are spectacular. We went on a day that was a little chilly and the breeze from the lake was crisp, but the cloud cover made for a great photo day.

Great hike, (Not a lot of effort for good visual rewards)

I started out about 1:00 Pm off Meridian Dr. There is an alternative Parking lot that does not require a fee to park. I started out off Pass Mountain Trail heading to the right. Past Cat's Peak Trail and looping around to the Wind Cave Trial head. Pass Mountain Trail was a very flat and easy but is still about 3 miles round trip. The Wind Cave Trail has no shade so if hot out might be better to go in morning or evening.

I was a very hot day and I wished I would have just done the Wind Cave Trail only. Did stop in the Wind Cave parking lot and get more water for trip back to the truck.
