Wow! This canyon was amazing! Don't lead this with more than 5 people though, or you'll hate yourself (Why can't I say no?). The approach is somewhat taxing, but can be accomplished easily if you pace yourself. I suggest starting as early as possible, with a group of 7 we didn't reach our vehicles until 8:30. All the webbing as of this post were nice and new, although the rapide on east fork entrance is going to need to be replaced soon. Man that first drop is insane. I would highly recommend the east entrance, as it is 215 of almost entirely free-hanging. You drop through a chimney-like feature and then travel down quite a ways away from the wall. Wetsuits are really not needed at all. We did this in the beginning of January, and even the most clumsy person should only get wet up to mid-thigh or waist (and only twice at that). The final rap is a lot more vertical than the picture led me to believe, but by the time I descended it was already dark :( I will be coming back again, as this really is the best canyon in the Supes that can be easily reached. It can be done quite efficiently with a 300, a 200, and a 150 foot section of rope. If you haven't been here, you need to do it at least once!

What a great canyon! Led a group of 8, half who had never rappelled before. Left town by 8 AM, and we were back to Tempe by 4. The catclaw is very minimal for Supes conditions, and the boulder hopping (while somewhat rough for the new people) was not nearly as bad as the guide wrote it up to be. The little cave sections (crawling under boulders) was really really fun, and pretty intuitive on how to get though. The group had a lot of fun with everyone choosing their own paths boulder hopping down the canyon - don't worry, because there's always at least a few different ways around obstacles. I was surprised to find two naked bolts maybe 15 minutes before the rappel which seemed to serve no purpose, maybe for a rescue? The rappel is very beautiful, with an easy start perfect for beginners. It also has probably the easiest transition to overhang that I've seen before. Webbing was brand new, but I found the multitude of bolts to be quite an eyesore, with a perfectly good boulder a few feet back for a natural anchor. There was a 2 point bolted anchor as well as another bolt with a single strand of webbing about a foot away. Maybe it could be cleaned up a bit. Also if you don't have enough rope for the entire rap, there's a good halfway point that's already anchored (and large enough for everyone to stand there) if you want a 2 stage rap. All-in-all a great canyon with a beautiful rap overlooking the large walls around the Snake River.

I led a large group with a few newbies, so it took quite some time to get through the canyon. Very pretty winter canyon! Luckily we only encountered the infamous bees in one section - no incidents. It was a little interesting to see a few bolts up high for climbing sections in the canyon, I never knew that was there. Not very obtrusive though, nobody else noticed them. We had to navigate around one rappel to avoid getting wet, but everything else was just as described. I highly recommend this for only a small group if you have new canyoneers... I had 8 others (5 new) with me, and it took forever!
