Ok, so just getting around to writing up my triplog for the Reverse Flat Iron route. Following Rick Vincents route.

Starting over at the Mining Camp at 0656, We worked our way up the Treasure Loop past the Hand. After a bit we hoppped off trail and headed straight into a drainage. Some ice covering the pools of water in the falls area here. A hawk perched on a spire giving us special attention. We caught the ridge up that was just above the falls. Following this ridge straight towards the hoodoos high above us on the mountains ridgeline.

Only a few moments of reprieve from this point to the ridgeline. Steep. The morning dew still icey on the grassy areas of the slopes. Scree. Cholla. Steeper still. More cholla. An agave found my left thigh and found momentary shelter inside my leg... Buckhorn hiding in the long grass also found refuge from the slopes inside my calf. Just about to the top. The hoodoos are getting closer. They're so close. My thighs are burning. My calves are rebelling. I just wanna top out, hit 5024 and have my damn coconut water at this point. Finally, we're rounding up on some smooth rock and then the Ridgeline is right there.

One last push up to 5024. And wow. What a great hike. Chill on 5024 for about a half hour and eat while we rehydrate. Down Siphon Draw and out. Wow. Busy trail on New Years eve day. Glad we took the back way up :y:

Solo hike this morning on Black Mesa loop. I got to the First Water TH around 0530 and headed out on the Dutchman 104. The intersection with the Black Mesa 241 comes along after a pretty easy 5 miles(It's mostly downhill). There's a very obvious signpost marking the trail. Leaving the Dutchman and taking the 241 up Black Mesa, then last 5mi all the way back around to First Water.
Not a whole lot of elevation loss or gain. Good exercise route with some pretty good views of the Western Superstitions.

So, this trip was off to a pretty rad start before I had even set foot on trail. I got an early hours photo of the Milky Way upon arrival to the Peralta TH. I knew the was a reason I'd brought my tripod.

So, the trail. Dutchman 104 out to Miners Needle. No major elevation losses or gains. Pretty basic stuff. After the Needle a quick climb up to the saddle, again really the only elevation gain at this point. Here at the saddle, continue on the 104. The downhill keeps the pace swift. Tall grass on either side the trail. A perfect place for a snake to lay waiting for me..
Soon enough the Terrapin and Bluff Springs intersection came along. But not before I'd had a chance to meet a new friend sunning himself on a berm along the trail. Yep. Gotta love snakes. Giving a warning rattle when you're 2 feet from them. And they're at shoulder level. He wound up being pretty polite after all. Didn't take too much of his time snapping some photos. A quick dash down the trail and over before I knew it. Great trip. Loads of epic scenic views. Very Minor route finding. Very well cairned route pretty much the whole way through. Fun trip, low stress, easy mileage.

One of my favorite sunrise loops. This route starts on the Bluff Springs TH. Normally I jump onto the cave trail where it meets up with the 235, but I had been looking at the map and noticed that there was a sweet area just a bit ahead on the 235 that would be a fun bushwhack. For some. Not two of my friends that had joined and thought shorts were ideal. Not too overgrown to be honest but enough to make someone wearing shorts, sad. Anyway. once rejoined with the cave trail, proceed on up to the Fremont, out to the lone Pinion, and then back down and out the highway known as the Peralta.

An early morning solo trip out to Black Top Mesa. The trail itself is super straight forward. The push to the top of the Mesa is the most strenuous part of the hike. There are super incredible views of the Western Supes from here. :y:
