| no partners | | I heard a lot about this trail, more importantly, a co-worker showed me pictures of genuine-ish hieroglyphs on the rocks that I couldn't find on other hikes that I had done up until this point. Once again, the Superstitions didn't disappoint. Majestic desert beauty rose up around me on all sides, taking my breath away. Beautiful vistas were at every turn. I saw cactus forests and rolling valleys of green that looked like rolling green oceans. Clear blue AZ skies accompanied me on my journey, the weather was perfect for hiking. The trail was rocky, but there were places where it would flatten out for the mountains to show themselves off. There were signs of ancient civilization in some of the rocks on the way up. One rock had perfect round holes drilled into it. This rock was used by the Apache women to grind corn and over time, the holes were ground into the rock. I even found a cactus that looked like giant gnarled old man at the top of the trail. There were some signs of water along the way too, but barely a trickle. The culmination of the trip was well worth it. A series of cascading pools running by walls of painted rocks was the reward for my effort. The hieroglyphs were there to see, but I was told later that some of them were just kids messing around. I did see some older, fainter markings which may have been genuine. Never the less it was worth the trip. |
