Started out 11am Sat 4/30/16, plenty of parking in the little Bug Springs trail-head parking lot. The dry, first part heads straight up. This is where I got my tougher cardio out of the way (but really there were plenty more opportunities throughout). There was one large horse group and 2 mountain bikers. The canyon part is the prettiest part, made me happy I finally tried this trail. Spotted several Mexican Jay's in the canyon. Reached the end (small parking strip on the highway, picnic spot across the road). Took me about 2 hrs 15 mins one way. No bushwhack pants needed, shorts were fine.

Cold wind in the morning heading out. Hiking out direction was nice. Pleasant wide open meadow look once you get over the big ridge. Little streams around. Stopped to eat lunch with bf by a bigger steam and then decided to head back. Probably best since the hike going back up that mean ridge was super tough. I liked doing this hike when the steams were still full of snow melt, made it extra pretty.

One weekend after snow, avg temp 77f.Wear water resistant shoes, lots of hopping back and forth across low stream. Very pleasant, uncrowded.Saw some large blue birds in cayon. I recommend starting around 10am instead of noon because the sun might duck down on the other side of the mountain and leave you in a cold canyon.

The stream at the reservoir was not cross-able today (to continue on to east fork trail) without river shoes / shorts. it was about 4-5 feet wide, maybe 1 ft deep.
