My sisters were visiting from CA. They really like to hike, so I brought them to the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy to give them an idea of hikes they can do when they return and have more time. We took this little hike, read all of the plaques and learned more about the life of the desert.

We really enjoyed this hike. It was a beautiful sunny day. We did see a lizard and tried to track down a bird's song. This is a wonderful introduction to the park. I'll bring other visitors here so they can marvel in the beauty. :A1:

Phoenix Beginning Hikers
This was a MEETUP group hike (Phoenix Beginning Hikers)The hike started at 10am. I was with our daughter Anne. The weather was a bit chilly, but refreshing. The trail leader was on his second hike for the morning. I don't know how he did it, but it was an inspiration to me. The trail started out with a slow incline. We saw a pack of coyotes. We did have 1 dog with us, but I didn't think the trail was good for a doggie. Trail was narrow in some spots and very rocky. I was surprised that the trail wasn't wetter than it was. There were about 20 of us and we were all ages. Halfway on the hike the trail took a steep uphill climb. :scared: I was worried I wouldn't make it, but our lead slowed down for us 'slow pokes' to catch up. Very nice hike. The view was good, but it was cloudy so one couldn't see very far. We were done by noon.

It looked to me like the barrel cactus was getting ready to bloom.

McDowell Sonoran Conservancy
This was a wonderful 1st hike in AZ. Was with our daughter. (This was organized by the McDowell MEETUP group) This particular hike was special because we had a guest speaker who knew a lot about the history of the McDowell park; its roots, owner and the latest history. We stopped and enjoyed the views and listened to our guest share stories of the trail. The hike itself wouldn't take too long, but if you are going to "stop and smell the roses", sort of speak, then it will take the entire morning. I'd say there were about 25 in the group. All ages. the trail was very nice, flat, dry and wide. I'll be going back to do this hike again. :y:

Not much, but there were signs of spring. I must make it a point to go again same time in 2016 to enjoy the spring foliage.
