Climbing Skull Mountain in Western, Pa with my family several years ago..,This is the most fun mountain climbing and cave exploring every year..,I have been coming to this place for over 40 years..,We love this area..,during this trip we had 3 generations of our family climbing the mountains..,WE LOVE SKULL MOUNTAIN.............!!! :y: :) :sweat: :yr: 8) : app :

Nice conditions, beautiful surroundings and well-mapped routes..,This is not far from Chicago, and is a true gem in an otherwise very flat region..,We have hiked here for many years, it does not get old, and in the winter season, they have eagles that nest near the river and you are able to view them catching fish..,Majestic area.., :y: :yr:

This place is beautiful, close to Chicago, and has wilderness that is spectacular..,the hiking, skiing and climbing is an extreme challenge with all the snow--that is what makes this so much fun..,great place for a family getaway..,We love it..,great time..,

Superior climbing..,the hiking was medium in difficulty..,the sights were astounding..,we were surprised by a white tailed deer running past us, we saw multiple hawks, a roadrunner that dashed past us and finally we did not see the skunk, but make no mistake, he / she was there..!! As we approached the peaks at Dinosaur Mountain, we signed in with the book, then went to work. Both peaks were extremly challenging with loose rocks on the 'most traveled' climbs..,the 'paths less traveled' were worth the sweat and challenging moves..,this was an amazing day, beautiful, magestic and the views were astounding.., :y: 8) : rambo : :welcome: :app:

The start of this climb is BRUTAL..,absolutely brutal..,once you are 1/2 up, there is an ideal 'resting' place to admire the beautiful surroundings and conetmplate continuing the rest of the way..,we continued & climbed to the top of both peaks; the official apex of the mountain, and the other peak, overlooking the football stadium..,once you go off the trails, both peaks are challenging to reach, especially the one by the football field..,loose rocks, a broken-down fence and unfortunately, GARBAGE..,it was depressing to see all the cigarettes, beer cans and other assorted garbage.., :x :wrt: the views are magestic, the climbing is challenging and fun and the trip down is relaxing and beautiful..,

The Silly Mountains were excellent to hike, climb and explore..,this is superior for novice climbers / hikers, provided you stay on the trails..,we went off trail several times, the rocks were far more challenging and fun off-trial. The 3 of us hit all 5 peaks in the surrounding areas, superior views & photos were amazing..,highly recommended for all skill levels..,we used a GoPro for the first time and they are WORTH EVERY PENNY..!! Spend half a day hiking and climbing..,the weather was ideal, and we arrived early and avoided the 'crowds' :) The trails down were in excellent condition, NO GARBAGE, beautifully maintained..,

We have climbed here 3 times and The Silly Mountains have never disappointed us..,We will keep coming back..!!
