Spent 3 days in the area glassing up wildlife, which given the time of year there was not much to be seen. Gorgeous canyon, we set up basecamp about 3 miles in and explored out from there. No water to be found, we packed in all that we needed

A quick out and back, snow is already gone but the creek was still flowing strong. Spotted a young elk on the hillside, perhaps a name change to Elk Creek is in order?

Easy trail, although I didn't complete it all because of time restrictions. After the snowfall and rain from the previous night it was a beautiful morning, caught the sunrise with the Mazatzals covered in snow. Overcast day kept it chilly and the dogs wandered at their pleasure

Still a little bit of snow in the higher elevations, had a nice frozen crust on it. Not the easiest trail to follow but the views are well worth it, being able to see all the way to the San Francisco peaks off in the distance. Turned around just before The Park, but we’ll be back for a backpack trip in that area in the future

Straight out and back, didn’t make a loop out of it like the write up suggests. Started at the TH at 5:15 so we managed to keep in the shade for most of the hike. A few pottery sherds up top and some fairly over grown ruins, with the petroglyphs at the bottom of the hill right next to the trail being a pretty big highlight. Gnats were out in full force, if we happen to explore the ruins any further we’ll be sure to bring along some repellent

Easy out and back, albeit my first time on the trail. Got there early enough to beat the crowds, there was a line of people heading in as we finished up at 11:30am or so

Quick out and back with the Mrs. along with a couple cans of wine from Merkins Vineyards. One of the few trails in Sedona that will give you privacy, great option for a hike with the dogs

Finished off the NY segment that we left off from last time, Peekskill NY to Pawling NY. Typical (in my experince) New York hiking, always close to road noise with flashes of rain and lost of clouds... RPH Shelter was a delight though, and the culture on the trail is one that everyone should experience. Fall colors we're close to peaking and water was plentiful as usual. Next up is Pawling NY to somewhere in CT?.....

We were fully aware of the massive crowds to be expected, so we weren't disappointed in that aspect. Just an easy hike, cruising in and out, following the stream after a bit to avoid passing people every 5 minutes on the trail. Turned around a ways after the trail ended when the wind picked up and the rain started to fall, but the rain only lasted a half an hour or so. Always a great area to visit, and nice to see the number of parents introducing the young ones to spending time outdoors. Trail is easy enough to go barefoot a la Cody Lundin after a mutual bet between me and a friend was made, and surely many "hobbit" comments were made as a result.

Spent three days along the Appalachian Trail in what turned out to be the polar opposite of hiking in AZ, nothing but moisture, fog, and rain for the entire trip without seeing the sun once. Got to the trailhead via train to the town of Harriman then walked the 2 miles of so to the trail. Switchbacks were non existent as we headed straight up and down hills, struggling to keep our footing in the muddy ground. The shelters along the trail were an interesting experience, provided a (mostly) dry place to hang up wet clothing set up our sleeping bags, although with it being the height of thru-hiking season space was at a premium. Finished up with a road walk from the Bear Mountain Bridge to the town of Peekskill where we caught a train back to NYC.
