Hiked from First Water TH up to Parker Pass (via Dutchman), then SE up an unnamed (at least I can't find a name) trail over a small saddled and down into O'Grady canyon. Hiked up canyon to where it starts. I was surprised as to the number of Carins along O'Grady canyon. Nice to see some little waterfalls / cascades from the rain on Friday. First time I saw water in this area of the Superstitions since last Spring. A short distance west of the "headwaters" of O'Grady canyon are even some hoodoos. Really a scenic area. Next time might try going up the First Water arroyo to get to the same general area where I turned around this time.

Day hike from Peralta TH to LaBarge Spring via Bluff Spring and Dutchman trail to check out water flow. LaBarge Spring is dripping. Spring surrounded by some type of what looks to be ivy ... being cautious, I assumed it was poison ivy ... so did not climb up to the spring box. Can someone educate me on the type of plant? Also saw a deer.

Hiked Dutchman from First Water trailhead to the intersection of Peralta trail. About 10.9 out and back with a short detour up Bull Pass trail a ways. See pics .. Signs of fire damage all the way until about 1/2 mile west of Peralta. West Boulder and Little Boulder look the worse. Will go back and do some exploring up canyon areas that were tough to get through in the past ... now are wide open.

At First Water TH by about 1:30 pm on Thursday (1/20/22). Headed down Lost Dutchman trail (LDT) turned left on Second Water Trail. Met about six groups (2 to 6 people each) along the trail until the Black Mesa / Hackberry intersections. Saw no one else until the next day. Before starting the drop down into Second Water canyon, I spent a few minutes looking for the Cholla Tank social trail, no luck there. Headed up the Boulder Canyon trail. Plenty of water but not so much that you need to get your feet wet. Made it to the LDT, Bull Pass, Boulder Canyon trails area where I spent the night. In the morning a thin coating of ice was on the tent from condensation. Headed up Bull Pass trail where I met a group of a dozen people (MeetUp group) that spent the night at Charlebois. Turned right at the intersection of Bull Pass and LDT ... always like the view hiking down the LDT in Needle Canyon, seeing Weavers Needle. Stayed on the LDT until I reached the TH. First Water TH at 5 pm on Friday was nearly empty. Overall a very nice overnight backpack.

Started at the Washington Park TH around 2:30 pm on Tuesday (5/5). Decided to go clockwise in the event I could not make it around the FR95 washed-out area at Bear Canyon (I am not much for attempting any climbing); doing so would reduce the out-n-back hike if needed. The washed out area was easily navigable. Camped around 5.5 miles from the TH at a nice established campsite. Used my Warbonnet Black Bird hammock ... extremely comfortable. Only downside was that the moon was bright for most of the night, given I only had the bug net on the hammock (no solid covering). Would have been nice to have had a campfire, but not allowed at this time. Wednesday at sunrise was "see-your-breath" chilly. On Wednesday, started out about 7:40 am and finished the remaining 18 miles of the loop and back down to Washington Park TH by 6 p.m. Best part of loop was the first 7 miles or so; scenic climb from TH to Rim and hike along General Springs creek. Water is plentiful all the way around loop going clockwise until about the midway point on the Houston Bros trail, then a couple small flows, and nothing for water along the Cook trail except for Dude lake (would only use that source as a last resort). Saw one Turkey, a few lizards, couple frogs, and plenty for other birds. Heard lots of coyotes and owls Tuesday night. Saw a total of four people during the entire trip.

1-night backpack in Superstitions. All the washes and creeks were flowing (no need to carry water at this point; but able to keep dry crossing). Weather was great and scenery was fantastic. Saw what the Woodbury fire did to a small section of the Dutchman trail to the north of the intersection with the Whiskey Spring trail. Saw the fire impact for about 1/2 mile or so. Forgot to stop and see the Giant Saguaro (will need to do that next trip). Lots of possible campsites to choose from in the Charlebois Spring area and west to the Cavalry trail intersection ... But decided against this (in part due to the abandon camp site which had a rusted garden shears laying on top of it ... Friday the 13th Movie sort of thing) ... see photo. Anyhow, ended up camping along Needle Canyon ... a wonderful night in the Superstitions. In the morning tackled the climb up to the Terrapin Pass and on to the Bluff Spring trail and back to trailhead. Will need to get one more of these 1-night-trips in before it warms up.

Daughter and I did the Weavers Needle loop. Started at Peralta trailhead. Went counter-clockwise. Along Bluff Spring, to Terrapin, to Dutchmans, to Peralta trail, and back to trailhead.

Was on the trail by 7 a.m. (about 1/2 dozen vehicles at trailhead). Saw three backpackers on the Terrapin; a group on 17 horses (and riders) about a mile in on the Peralta, and a few other people prior to arriving at Fremont. Once we got to Fremont Saddle, there were a lot more people (at least a dozen) ... It looked like most went went up to Fremont Saddle and then back down.

This was the first time for hiking from the Peralta trailhead. Nice. Usually go in at First Water trailhead. Both nice.

13.9 miles, 9 hrs 24 minutes; 3,136 feet ascent.
