We entered from FR 91 near Gentry Spring, moving East down a canyon drainage that appeared to have a large stand of hardwoods from satellite imagery. The intermixing of Maples and Aspens was truly spectacular, exceeding my expectations! This whole area is a mosaic of ridges and drainages, meadows and dense woodlands. The ridges are dominated by pine and oaks (maybe not quite at prime color). The wetter, cooler drainages are dominated by maples which seem to be showing prime colors (reds, pinks, oranges)! Aspens are mixed throughout and range from still green to golden to leaves dropped. Quite a bit of diversity throughout here. Saw a group of Elk about halfway through the trip, and heard their calls fairly loudly for the rest of the stroll. |
